Podcasting to rabbit-hole dwellers everywhere...

WELCOME DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE!

When tourists go to other countries, they have a book that prevents them from feeling like Alice, in Wonderland.  But in every city in the world, there are a group of immigrants, emigrants, refugees, academics, backpackers, aid workers, expatriates, diplomats and businesspeople that don't have a book: they live down the Rabbit Hole, Daily.  Every podcast (bi-monthly) starts with a story from us here in Rome, Italy.  (Episodes include eclectic, sound-rich articles on: music, politics, curiosities, culture, current events, social experiment, etc.)  We then move to a story from one of our contributors in another part of the world.  In addition to rabbit-hole dwellers everywhere, this podcast may also be of interest to people curious about Italian culture, or people trapped in offices or long commutes who want a virtual escape!

WE WILL BE BACK IN AUG OF 06!

NEWS!

FEB.11.07  ok, ok we're REALLY late.  My computer died, and as I'm in Italy, ordering a new mac and getting it set up isn't easy.  All of the podcast sound files were on the old machine, etc.  I'm tinkering with the 'old' computer-- which honestly isn't all that old to see if I can revive it in the meantime...  I've actually got podcasts finished that are ready to post... PLEASE STAY TUNED!

-FEB.05.07  Ok, ok.  I know, we're 5 days late.  This episode will be a special, experimental episode... 90 minutes long.  It will be posted as soon as possible- about 48 hours.

-DEC.15.06: After skipping an episode due to the holidays, we're back! Enjoy just-publised episode #115!  We've just changed editing programs from Audacity to Garageband 3.  I've been having trouble fading audio in/out at the "tails" of segments...  I am also sure there's a one-click solution to make sure the audio is at a consistent  decibel level, but as yet I haven't found it.  (Yes, I have read the mac forums.) Any listener-advice is welcome!

-OCT.02.06: THE PODCAST HAS BEEN ACCEPTED BY ITUNES! (Category: Society & Culture ---> Places & Travel) In the meantime, I'd like to thank all the people who have been working so hard on submitting pieces...

Which reminds me: our goal is to have a contributor on every continent.  We've got Asia (temporarily), Africa and Europe covered.  (Plus Megan and Noah in Mexico, but for the life of me I can't decide whether that counts as South America or North America) So with 4 continents covered, we set out to find contributors in Australia, Antarctica and South/North America (depending on Mexico). WHAT THE HECK... lets try for 2-3 contributors on each continent. (It does seem rather silly that I'm representing all of Europe.  After all, there are so many other interesting countries here! (and what are the chances of me finding someone in Antartica, anyway?) If any of you know a good writer, who happens to have immigrated to a new country, please direct them to the "Contribute Here" section of the webpage.

-Each episode of RHD is made with tender-loving-care by our contributing team, using the best equipment available to them.  We do "clean" recordings in post-production, and welcome any tech-tips.  Otherwise, for our part, we're happy the world still has wild places left... (obviously sans professional recording studios)

-Yes, we are called Rabbit Hole, Daily.  The "daily" refers to people who live in foreign countries, everyday. (i.e. not tourists)  It does not refer to the frequency with which we podcast,  episodes are released on the 1st and 15th of every month.

-ARE YOU AMERICAN?!?  Recent studies show that almost 300 million people of every 6.5 billion, are, in fact, American.  Further studies show that a pathetic percentage of said Americans vote. If you are living or vacationing overseas, please contact the embassy or visit this link-
http://www.overseasvotefoundation.org/
for guidance on voting in upcoming elections while abroad.  If you are living stateside and can't make it to a polling place, remember that you may also apply for an absentee ballot, even if you are not "absent".

-Please take a look at the band doing our "theme music", Nino Astronauta. (see our "contributor profiles" page)

WORTHWHILE TO DO...

Eventually, your podcast will end.  No, I am not being existential.  When you hear the closing music, and switch your ipod off, consider supporting one of these organizations:

CHALK FOR PEACE:  Someone at http://chalk4peace.org had the genius idea to organize a day when children in cities all over the world chalk their neighborhoods with messages of peace and hope.  The project needs a lot of organization throughout the year, and they're always looking for new volunteers and new cities.

HEIFER INTERNATIONAL:  Has won the Hilton Humanitarian award, in addition to many others.  Heifer helps people in developing countries by giving them the gift of a set of live animals.  Of course these animals replicate, and sustain their host population.  Check out the cool pics at Heifer's website, and the next time you think about getting someone a sweater fo their birthday, consider getting them a heifer.  Or llama, water buffalo or flock of ducks.  If you're feeling saucy, get a trio of rabbits or some bees... http://www.heifer.org
