How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Radiation Sickness

A century ago the nations warred, the causes were myriad, and no-one today is sure of the trigger.  It started off as a small conflict between two or three countries, but the anger spread and eventually nearly every country that could send troops was at war, alliances were struck, but there was no real trust between those fighting side by side.  One of the largest nations deployed the first nuclear device, confident that their technology and sheer numbers would ensure the country’s survival throughout the storm.  Books, computers and memories burnt.  Which nation it was is now unknown, but the stomach for retaliation was lost after the results of the initial salvo fired by every nuclear capable nation was seen.

The world was bathed in sickness, some hid, some survived, most died.

Your land was one of a small number that had defenses against such an attack.  It helped, but many missiles still got through.  The status of the rest of the world is unknown, for now the only concern for most people is surviving today, exploring off the coast can wait.

Surviving is possible, although the weak and the old have almost no hope of surviving, a healthy adult is more than capable of finding food and water and avoiding predators.  Thriving is a little more difficult.  If you are to be successful, you will need a lot of skill and a lot of luck.

The setting for the RPG is the typical post apocalyptic desert wasteland.  The apocalypse occurred about ten or twenty years in the future (from now), and it has been about eighty years since the bombs fell.

You can travel without a radiation suit, but there is the occasional hot spot.
