Quinta Quijote has good winds pretty much year round and we'll be using
those winds to power our finca. This system has been in the planning stages for
many years as it has taken some time to assemble everything we need. Our Bergey
windmill was bought from a dealer in country and still took almost two months
to get through Customs.

Alternate energy systems are popular enough here for there to be four
stores in Managua and we were able to comparison shop on every other necessary
item. Besides the windmill, an inverter and some deep cycle batteries were
needed, and we got to give these a trial run at the rental house in town. For
now, four deep cycle batteries have been sufficient for our needs in Jinotepe,
but on the finca we'll be using a total of 20.

One of the last things the builder accomplished in 2007, before the heavy rains kept more supplies from being hauled in, was to plaster the electric room. This room had been built by the first crew of workers we hired and was rather homely. The builder fixed it up and now it just needs a few coats of white paint (sealer first, of course) and it'll be time to put in shelving for the electric batteries.
