QUEENSWAY FLUTE BAND
|
The History Behind The Band Queensway flute band were formed in 1977 the year of the Queens silver jubilee. Their first meeting was held at killeaton shops derriaghy on the Queensway road which runs from seymour hill to lambeg hence the name of the band. Their first uniform consisted of a red jumper, black trousers with a blue pinstripe attached and their first parade that year was the twelth of july in Belfast. The band has walked on the 12th of july ever since 1977, and has participated in numerous band competitions all over the country and hopes to do so for another 25 years, many trophies have been picked up throughout the years which is a credit to the many devoted members weve had through the years. Only three members remain from the start in 1977 ( Gary Sinclair, Billy Wardlow and Andrew Wardlow) which is quite an achievment. Recently the band have been travelling to Bridgeton, Scotland to partake in their annual July celebrations which the band fully enjoys as they have many good friends over there ( big shout to Dominion bar and Bridgeton loyalist F.B). which we hope to see very soon. Last year the band changed their uniform from the traditional red and black of recent years to a more bigoted red and blue with silver trimmings, new drums and flutes were also purchased, i would like to thank anyone who has donated or raised money for the band it is much appreciated as it is an ongoing struggle to keep Queensway looking protestant and walking the queens highway.
