QATAR PETS

Why this website was born

Qatar Pets was set up to address the needs of homeless animals here in Doha.

Please be patient whilst this website gets the attention it deserves.  Keep us bookmarked, because soon we will have a new link to follow.  Thank you, and bless you for wanting to help animals!

Please spread the word

When I started this project, I never realised that there would be so many like minded people out there willing to lend a helping hand.  The only problem, is that because all of us love animals.....most of us 'already' have animals.  Some of us have LOTS of animals; simply because we can't bear to see them suffer.  So whilst all of us 'animal lovers' keep getting together and helping out where we can, what we really need is to spread the word and get the animals into loving homes, because many of us cannot foster or adopt the animals ourselves.

Initially when I started Qatar Pets, I only wanted to help the animals find homes via a website; but I soon realised that it wouldn't be enough.  So I contacted QAWS to see how we could combine our efforts.  Before long we formed the group you see today of dedicated individuals and countless volunteers.

QAWS (Qatar Animal Welfare Society) was kept alive for years thanks to the patience of dedicated people and one person in particular.  But it can no longer survive like this.  It originally closed down, but due to our endevours and the publics loyalty towards QAWS, it's still there, and together we are working hard to help the animals in our care.

Still pets keep on getting dumped.  Why?  Because people decide on a whim to purchase, and then again on a whim to abandon their loyal friends; or because they ignore the importance of spaying and neutering their pets and so find themselves with unwanted litters.  When will it end?  When will people become responsible enough to own a pet.  When will they understand, that in their eyes we are the sun and the moon for them and that they look to us the way a child looks at his mother or father.  Would a parent abandon their child on the street? No, not unless they are evil and soulless.  So why should this be any different?

Us animal lovers (we know who we are.............) put the burden on our shoulders due to the carelessness of others; and we do it for the animals, because we love them.  But we need more help.  We need more people to adopt, to foster, to help with vaccinations and medication.  We need YOUR help.  Yes we understand that to help all the strays here is a colossal task, and we also understand that we can't change the world all at once.  There are lots of feral cats here in Doha, and with the help of QCC (Qatar Cat Coalition) there is something being done by way of a trap neuter and return TNR program, because many of these cats cannot be re-homed due to their feral nature.  But at least it helps to stop the ever growing population.  Did you know that in seven years, one female cat and her offspring can theoretically produce 420,000 cats.  In six years, one female dog and her offspring can theoretically produce 67,000 dogs!  These are HSUS Pet Overpopulation Estimates from the US; but it clearly indicates how spaying or neutering can help to reduce unwanted animals on the streets.

So please, PLEASE..................spread the word!  United we CAN make a difference!  We can change the world, one cat, one dog at a time (even horses too!).  The more animal lovers we have to care, foster, adopt or sponsor unwanted animals, the more time the people that are on the 'front line' will have to make groundbreaking changes for the future of Animal Welfare in Qatar, as well as physically care for these poor animals.

Please help them.
