My work explores the ambiguous tension
between originality and reproduction
by placing found imagery in unique, specific, painted environments.
I combine the photocopied with the painted.
The photocopy can be reproduced ad-infinitum,
and the so-called original is itself a simulacrum
(a photograph, printed matter, etc.).
Painting, on the other hand,
is always a specific act of creation
tied to the particular moment and surface of its application
and can never be exactly copied.
Each piece contains both of these elements,
the reproducible elements of social convention
and the particularities of individual, eccentric expression.
