Rain-out Policy

To help alleviate the communication problems, the city has set up a rain-out line.  The Rain-out Line number is (913) 385 – 4686.  Notification will be recorded by 7:15 am for the 7:45 practices and 8:30 am – for the 9:00 practices during the course of the season.

Practice Curriculum

The primary focus for two days a week will be on technique and drills along with racing skills.  The other two days will focus on training, skill refinement and relays.

Friday Fun Days

Every Friday except Friday, June 5th will be a “Fun Day”.  After a meet on Thursday evening, Friday morning’s practice will be from 9 – 10:15 am for all groups.

The practice will begin with the coach’s talk, and the team members will be able to play games or use the slides and diving boards.  At the end of practice we hand out donuts to each swimmer and diver.  Each family gives $5 for the season to take care of the cost of the donuts.

Time Trials

On Friday, June 5th, the PV Swim Team will have time trials for all age groups.  If you can not attend, you must notify the coaches so they can arrange to time your swimmer(s).  Time trials will be from 8:00 – 10:00 am for all swimmers.

Ribbon Policy

Prairie Village Swim Team Ribbon Policy:

The first few meets of the season are always a bit confusing for our new families. Just to help you "get the feel of things" here is an explanation of our ribbon policy.

Ribbons are awarded to the four swimmers who swim for points in the first heat of every event at a dual meet. Swimmers who are number five, or six in a first heat are not eligible for ribbons. They are swimming "exhibition." Swimmers who are in the second heat are not eligible for ribbons. The entire second heat is swum for "exhibition." One reason for this set-up is that our computer software is set for this type of a format and thus when we print off labels for the ribbons, that’s all we get. Another reason is we are trying to genuinely award the swimmers who achieve the faster times the opportunity to receive ribbons. Children figure out very quickly if they are receiving a ribbon for a genuine accomplishment or just receiving a ribbon just to get one. The first and second heat are still the same event and generally the swimmers in the second heat are somewhat slower. That just means that they should strive to achieve a faster time so they can earn a spot in the first heat.

Ribbons are awarded to the three swimmers who swim for points at a tri-meet, they can be in the first heat or second heat.

This is not a highly competitive environment, so no emphasis is verbally placed on whether a child is swimming for points or not. Everyone is encouraged to do their best no matter how they typically finish an event.

As a parent organization, we have tried to come up with some way to acknowledge growth as swimmers develop speed during the season. The way we do this is to award "Best Time" ribbons. The first time a child swims an event in a season a base time is set. If at any time during the season, the swimmer improves his/her time, they will receive a Best Time ribbon. This is a way for us to recognize effort and improvement and to make the distribution of ribbons more equitable.

Please encourage your swimmer to strive for personal improvement, working for the Best Time ribbons.
