Our second season got off to a flying start winning 7-2 against Queen Bees. From then on the season got better and better, our final game before the Christmas break saw us win 3-2 against last years league winners, Okeford. Going into the second half of the season it was decided we would now play each team 4 times which worked in our favour and gave us the opportunity to play Okeford twice more, we drew the first game 2-2 and the league was decided in the final game of the season, fittingly we were playing each other, whoever won the game won the league. Unfortunately for us, after a great first half performance we tired in the second and lost 5-0, but at the end of our second season we finished second – watch out next year!!
Ok, so we didn’t quite manage to win the league in our third season but again we pushed Okeford all the way eventually losing 3-2 away from home in the deciding game and finishing second in the league for the second year in a row. Unfortunately we were denied the opportunity of playing Okeford again when they were not allowed to enter the League Cup. The Cup was played in a league format with the top two going into the final – we finished top (winning all 4 games and only conceding 2 goals) and faced Poole Town YL in the final at Wimborne which we won 3-0 for our first ever trophy.
Two teams from the South West League rejoined the Dorset League this year making it, on paper, one of the strongest for several years and on the whole we thrived on the challenge of playing ‘stronger’ teams. Again we finished second in the league, now three years in row (surely next year has to be our year), this time finishing runners-up to Weymouth. Although finishing second we ended the season with the best defensive record in the Dorset Women’s League conceding only 9 league goals, in fact we haven’t conceded a league goal since 12 November!! We went through our first ever bad spell which meant we were unable to defend our title in the League Cup but competed in the Dorset Women’s County Cup Final for the first time, eventually losing 3-0 to South West team Poole Town at Hamworthy in April.
An unusual start to our fifth season to say the least: Lorraine scored a hat-trick in a 6-0 win over Donhead, which bearing in mind she scored 3 goals in 4 season prior to this was amazing and then in the second game of the season the Weymouth goal-keeper scored from her own box in a game we went on to lose 2-1. However we did get better as the season went on, with the exception of the County Cup game (the day after our Christmas Meal) and the Poole Town league game (the day after Lorraine's birthday celebrations). With a couple of months of the season remaining and after our biggest win of the season, Paul announced he would not be continuing as Manager... and then Lynne stood up and said she would also be finishing at the end of the season, so that's what you get for winning 13-0! For the third time in 5 years the league was decided in the final game of the season. We were home to Weymouth and thanks to Dorchester taking points off Weymouth in mid-week a draw would make us champions. As always we did it the hard way, 2-0 up with 30mins remaining we somehow managed to concede 2 goals and hang on until the final whistle. One comment that nearly every player made after the final game was 'yes i wanted to win for me but i wanted to win the league for Paul & Lynne in their final season'. So i hope you both liked our leaving present to you - We are (finally) the Champions!!!
