Many people enjoy the benefit of having a guinea pig as part of their family. Some even have multiple guinea pigs, which provides great entertainment for people of all ages.

I have always been an avid animal lover. As a teen I became involved in my local animal shelter. A fascination was always held for the smaller animals that became owner give-ups.

I couldnt quite understand how a person "couldn't have time" for such small friendly creatures.

As I read up on guinea pigs, and worked with them at the shelter, it was easy to see what great little pets they really make.

However, without socialization they can easily lose trust in humans and they can become hard to rehome.

I now offer an alternative to "dumping" small pets at animal shelters. My efforts also allow people to adopt socialized animals, rather than buying ones from stores that have had minimal human contact and continuous exposure to loud animals/people and possible illnesses.

. Guinea pigs live from 5-7 years and HAVE to be properly fed, housed and cleaned to avoid costly vet bills.

. Vets for exotic animals are the best for guinea pigs, as they specialize in their care.

.Before you adopt or purchase, make sure you have a vet within your area to care for your animal.
