Programs Needed: Paintshop Pro and, or, Animation Shop.
Learn how to go from:
to this:
001. First gather your picture. You may use mine. This is my picture:
002. Duplicate the base layer. To do so go to Layers>>Duplicate. Then go to your layer pallet and set the blend mode of the "Copy of Background" to 100% hardlight. It should look like this:
003. Then go to Layers>>Merge>>Merge All-Flatten. Then go to Colorize>>Greyscale. It should look like this:
004. Paste the picture to Animation Shop, and in Animation Shop copy and paste it again to Paintshop Pro. The reason I'm telling you to do this is because when you had changed the picture to greyscale your color pallet turned black and white. Once you do this step, your picture should be the same but your color pallet should once again be full of colors as usual. Then, click you freehand tool. It looks like this:
And set your settings to mine:
005. Carefully, with your tool, outline the area where you want to colorize. I want to colorize Demi's hat so I'm going to make an outline around her hat carefully. It should look like this when you're done:
006. Now go to Colors>>Colorize and choose a random number, or just continue clicking up until you are satisfied with the color. You have a preview like below that shows you the color. Then press Ok:
Your picture should look like this, or colorized in a specific area:
007. Continue repeating the process if you like. I finished mine, and this is how it looked. :P Viola. We are done.
