On Oct. 20, I attended Melodious Moments: A Celebration of Latin America at CSU-Pueblo.

This presentation of the Pueblo Children’s Chorale included elementary students from Prairie Winds Elementary, Rye Elementary, Mariachi Aguila de Cesar Chavez Academy and Dolores Huerta students. A musical evening with a bilingual flair was presented to a full house.

My compliments to Midori Clark, Pueblo City-County Library District, for helping sponsor the event and Dawn DiPrince for the program graphics. Mr. Jorge Melo, director of the Mariachi Aguila de Cesar Chavez Academy and Dolores Huerta, must be given special kudos for the high level of professional and talented musicians he directs.

The pride of accomplishment exhibited by this group of 20 male and female musicians needs to be acknowledged publicly for the outstanding manner by which they represented their schools.

These talented musicians showed pride in themselves and their work. Their schools must be complimented for providing an arena that nurtures the arts. As an educator, I recognize the time and effort that goes into such performances but I have seldom seen such an excellent professional performance presented by such a young group of musicians.

Such performances remind us of the importance of maintaining the Arts in Education as a way of developing artistic talent that enhances the academics. To all who made this event possible, gracias!
