Irish Republican Army - Socom: Combined Assault

[IRA] Óglaigh na hÉireann

The Struggle Continues

On Easter Monday in the year 1916 patriots of Ireland took to the streets of Dublin and proclaimed the Irish Republic from the steps of the General Post Office. Despite being severely outmanned and outgunned the brave volunteers of the Irish Citizen Army stood up to the might of the British Empire. The Rebels held out for a week until the great leaders of the Rising offered an unconditional surrendur and were then executed by firing squad, all spared survivors were taken to English prisons. The killings of the Republican heroes sparked a massive wave of nationalism across the country and the establishment of the Irish Republican Army. Under the leadership of Michael Collins the IRA carried out a bloody guerilla war against British Forces in Ireland that brought England to its knees. After initially refusing to recognize a sovereign Ireland in any form, the British Government agreed to negotiate with the Rebels in 1921. A treaty was made that resulted in the founding of the Irish "Free State", made up of the southern 26 counties of Ireland.

The fight for the full Socialist Republic continues to this day.
