Next Meeting
Wednesday, December 30
7:30 - 9:00 PM, JCC
The chapter had T-Shirts made for Southern Region Convention (SRC). They are available to chapter members for $20.
Congratulations to Nathan Rubinger, Emily Levinson and Sarah Smith. They were elected council Godol, council N'siah and council Gizbarit, respectively, at SRC. It's another example of leadership coming from Columbia.
The girls held elections recently. The new BBG officers are:
N'siah: Elyssa Greenhouse, S'ganit: Sarah Smith; MIT/MOM: Genna Safran; Mazkirah: Eden Picow; Shalicha: Becca Lewsky and Gizborah: Emily Wasserman. Congratulations to all.
If you know of any teen who is eligible to join AZA let Jonathan Friedman know. For BBG it's Genna Safran. It's also easier for a potential member to come to a meeting or event if someone he knows is also going to be there so bring that potential member with you.
The softball game was awesome. Parents joined members of AZA for an afternoon of fun and exercize. We'll do it again in the spring.
Congratulations to the Paul Schwartz chapter for being runner-up in basketball at SRC. We were beaten by a superior team from Atlanta but we obviously hung in there to make the championship game.
MINUTES OF MEETING, DEC. 16, 2009
Present: Louis Friedman, Jason Mohn, Elliott Chartock, Andrew Cherney, Sam Lourie, Rachel Lourie, Erin Fisher and Jerry Emanuel, advisor.
OLD BUSINESS: Louis, Michael Zalesne, Adam Ritter and Jerry Emanuel went shopping for Christmas gifts for two needy youngsters. The chapter allocated $150 for this community service, the shoppers spent $177. They went against the natural Jewish behavior by spending unnecessary money.
7:58 p.m. Sam Lourie is missing and the door to the Zone is unguarded.
NEW BUSINESS: The BBG chapter is hosting a movie night this Sunday at Brandon Picow's house Be there or be square! Bring $6 and a book for their book donation drive. Programs is from 7:30 to 10:30.
From out of nowhere, Jason presents a brilliant plan for recruiting new members and 8th graders. Jerry came to the meeting with a "pimp daddy" hat and Sam returned from his exciting journey to the pool where he was talking to Aleph Geoffrey Corvi. Jerry handed out a sheet of important dates, names and places and encouraged us to find out as much as possible about the first five items on the list and we'll discuss it next meeting.
NEXT MEETING: The next meeting is December 30 There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted: Elliott Chartock, Mazkir
2009-2010 Dixie Council Schedule
Feb. 19-21 To be announced
Mar. 19-21 To be announced
Apr. 9-11 Spring Convention & Columbia chapter's dance
For all these out-of-town conventions we're going to need to know well ahead of time who's going so the BBYO Committee of Columbia can plan transportation. When you sign up for these activities on www.b-linked.org let your advisor know or contact Rob Kriegshaber, BBYOC chairman. There may be times we'll have to rely on parents to drive the kids somewhere so just be aware.
A committee is forming to plan a reunion celebration honoring the Lena Karesh chapter, BBG, the Rabbi Abraham Herson chapter, BBG and the Paul Schwartz chapter AZA. This tentative date is somewhere between 12 and 18 months away. We'll need addresses and/or email addresses of as many alumni as we can identify. Your help is crucial to the success of this venture. We'll need to identify chapter sweethearts and beaus; presidents and advisors as well as Dixie Council and Southern Region officers from Columbia. In 1986 there were 65 people attending the 50th anniversary of the AZA chapter. With all three chapters being honored the possibility of a huge turnout is probable. If you want to join the effort or have documents or photos please contact Jerry Emanuel at jemassoc@juno.com.
We're putting together a brochure in which former BBYO members write a two paragraph "essay" on what influence BBYO has had on their life. Please email your responses to Jerry Emanuel at jemassoc@juno.com.
