                                       2009-2010 Dixie Council Schedule

Nov. 13-15   Southern Region Convention, Camp Rock Eagle, Rock Eagle, Ga.  with Atlanta Council chapters

Dec. 4-6       Savannah chapter's dance

Feb. 19-21    To be announced

Mar. 19-21    To be announced

Apr. 9-11      Spring Convention & Columbia chapter's dance

For all these out-of-town conventions we're going to need to know well ahead of time who's going so the BBYO Committee of Columbia can plan transportation.  When you sign up for these activities on www.b-linked.org let your advisor know or contact Rob Kriegshaber, BBYOC chairman.  There may be times we'll have to rely on parents to drive the kids somewhere so just be aware.

A committee is forming to plan a reunion celebration honoring the Lena Karesh chapter, BBG, the Rabbi Abraham Herson chapter, BBG and the Paul Schwartz chapter AZA.  This tentative date is somewhere between 12 and 18 months away.  We'll need addresses and/or email addresses of as many alumni as we can identify.  Your help is crucial to the success of this venture.  We'll need to identify chapter sweethearts and beaus; presidents and advisors as well as Dixie Council and Southern Region officers from Columbia.  In 1986 there were 65 people attending the 50th anniversary of the AZA chapter.  With all three chapters being honored the possibility of a huge turnout is probable.  If you want to join the effort or have documents or photos please contact Jerry Emanuel at jemassoc@juno.com.

We're putting together a brochure in which former BBYO members write a two paragraph "essay" on what influence BBYO has had on their life.  Please email your responses to Jerry Emanuel at jemassoc@juno.com.

                                                            It's Historical!

June 5, 1955

The meeting was called to order by Aleph Godol Sammy Fried.  After the rituals, the roll was called and minutes read and approved.  Aleph Bernie Friedman gave a sopher's report, property committee chairman's report and athletic chairman's report.

Aleph Henry Wengrow gave the report of the special committee on summer services and since the committee's findings were negative, the chapter will not hold services.

Aleph Freed gave a BBYO committee report.  Between old and new business, Dr. Albert Cremer discussed medicine as a career with the chapter.  The election of officers was held and the officers elected are:

Aleph Joe Rosen moved that Aleph Freed be elected Kohen Godol by unanimous vote.  It was seconded and passed.

The meeting was then adjourned after a round of good and welfare and the closing rituals.

Respectfully Submitted:  Alan Kahn, Aleph Mazkir

"Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the  bidding of the leaders.  That is easy.  All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger.  It works the same in any country."  (Herman Goering, Adolph Hitler's second-in-command and head of the Luftwaffe)

"The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer someone else up."  (Mark Twain)

"There is no distinctly native American criminal class...except Congress."  (also Mark Twain)

"If men can develop weapons that are so terrifying as to make the thought of global war include almost a sentence for suicide, you would think that man's intelligence and his comprehension would include also his ability to find a peaceful solution." (President Dwight David Eisenhower)

"Instead of just being dazzled by these corporate mega-mergers, there should be a nagging voice in all of us asking: Is democracy going to be bought up too?"  (Columnist and author, Thomas Friedman)

"We can't all be heroes...because someone has to sit on the curb and clap as they go by."  (Humorist Will Rogers)

"Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great."  (Mark Twain)

"The best index to a person's character is how he treats people who can't do him any good, and how he treats people who can't fight back." (Dear Abby - Abigail Van Buren)
