Tues 19th august saw the first serious runs of the UK ALMS with the pre race qualifying runs.
Each entry was given a 1 minute run on yellow lane with Jim Brown doing the driving as he had not yet driven any of the contenders so we would be sure of an unbiased performance..

First up was Greg Petrolatis BMW which ran round pendles 118 ft with out incident.
nd qualifer was Larry Shephards Corvette ,Larrys car was a really smooth runner but was very tippy on the pendle surface and never allowed Jim to exploit its immense power.
rd up Larrys R+S ,this was a very different car to the Corvette and was immediatly on the pace setting a very creditable time the motor had lots of punch and the chassis a joy to drive
th to qualify was the front engine Panoz of Bill Brehm,at first view Bills car was an odd set up but Jim was pleasantly surprised by the way it drove ,but unfortunatly it just didnt have enough power to give the time it was hoping for
th qualifier was the first of Chris Briggs entrys the BMW v12 Chris's cars go very well and suited the pendle track quite well despite being a bit on the heavy side
th up Chris Briggs CLK performance wise it was similar to his other entry but the handling was better and this was reflected in itbeing 2hundreths faster than his BMW
th qualifier was Chris Priests. McLaren ,while good round most of the track Chris's car stuggled to keep traction in some of Pendles left hand bends when pushed to the limmit it was only after that we discovered the guide was catching in the chassis causing the inside rear wheel to lift and tramp when this problem was cured the car ran much better ,and should be better in the race than its qualifying position suggests
th qualifier was Les Fennels Mclaren ,this car ran much better in qualifying than it ever did in the shake down but some times can be a bit unpredictable on the exits causing it to deslot with out warning
th qualifier David Grays long tail Mclaren ,was very easy to drive but stuggled to get round pendles hairpin some attention to the guide before the race will improve the cornering.
th up Aidrian Grays Merc CLK ran smooth taking provisional pole from Larry
th qualifier Phil Kalbfells Mosler came next setting the track alight and making Aidrians pole short lived
th up Phils Lola while a good strong runner this car just didnt have the power of his other entry
th qualifier Rhys Filbees demon chasssied Mosler lots out with a touch of axle tramp but still qualified well
th car Rhys's scratch built Mosler ran smooth and strong but not good enough to knock Phil off pole
th up was Erlings entry just like Chris+Gregs similar car Erlings ran well with an untroubled run
th entrant was Graham Windles Porsche on its home track put up a time 1/10th sec faster than any other so far
th qualifier Grahams new CLK flew totaly destroying any opposition with the only sub 7 second lap of the night
th qualifier was a late extra entrant from Graham to fill up the entry the plastic chasssied CLK which raced in Tasmania ,the light weight of this car helped give it a good qualifying position but was more of a handfull than some of the other entrants
