WHAT I HAD TO DO TO YOUR CAR TO KEEP IT GOING!

Uk proxy what I had do do to keep your car going

#1 Greg Petrolati

Greg’s car was the first to arrive and was basically well engineered biggest problem was body choice the beautifully prepared BMW was a little top heavy despite Greg’s attempt at reducing this by fitting light windows and interior it still was a bit tippy .the body took some severe impact damage during the week end and came detached from the mounts on 2 occasions, tyre diameter was also a problem for the last race I reduced the tyre diameter a bit which improved the stability and helped the performance

#Larry Shephard

Larry’s corvette was a nightmare from the start although probably the fastest car in a straight line it was difficult to put in consistent fast laps the center tongue came detached from the axle bracket after a heavy crash in qualifying but even before this the car would not corner well an inline car like this needs a lot of flex in he center section so there was nothing I could do to improve the performance in other respects it was 100% reliable

#3 Larry Shephard

The R +S was a joy to drive requiring only minor bodywork and a wheel putting back on when it came off at Bolton

#4 Bill Brehm

Bills car when it arrived quite honestly I didn’t think it would last the distance but after a bit of tweaking with weights and tyres ran with out problem of need for any repair over the entire race the motor matched the handling perfectly and was delightful to drive. When driven hard could match the pace of some much faster cars a very good effort indeed I look forward to Bills entry next year

#5 Chris Briggs

BMW superbly engineered and an absolute joy to drive this car required no major work over the whole event and on lost the rear wing on a couple of occasions

#6 Chris Briggs

CLK as with the BMW Chris’s CLK was superb but a trip to the floor at Bolton caused a chassis joint to break affecting gear mesh and soft front tyres peeling off caused it to trip over at slot tech

#7 Chris Priest

Chris sent a very good car to Pendle but misfortune struck in its first race and got worse resulting in a trip to the floor breaking the guide holder and chipping a gear, once repaired Chris’s car ran well and needed no further repairs

#8 Les Fennel

McLaren, Les’s car had some un usual handling characteristics and could not be pushed hard out of the bends also the motor came unsoldered and chewed the gear at Pendle

Once repaired it ran well for the rest of the event requiring no major attention

#9 Adrian Gray

CLK another good car which drove extremely well, had it not suffered with broken wires it could have challenged for second o/a as it was much faster than the eventual second place car the car had no other faults through out the week end.

#10 David Gray

McLaren long tail the only maintenance to this car the whole weekend wan the need to trim the guide to get round Pendles hairpin otherwise a faultless run

#11 Phil Kalbfell

Lola with out a doubt car of the meeting only requiring minor bodywork and a wire resoldering

#12 Phil Kalbfell

Mosler while this car only needed minor body work it ran slower as the meeting progressed due mainly to alignment of the chassis which did not really show up until ½ way through the slot tech round excessive play in the guide arm being the main problem

#13 Rhys Filbee

Mosler 2 no problems were experienced with this car other than a twisted chassis, which was soon twisted back to alignment

#14 Rhys Filbee

Mosler this car ran faultlessly all weekend only loosing the body once if this car had more power it could easily have challenged for overall first place

#15 Erling Brox

Porsche, Erlings car was well engineered and needed no repair work during the course of the race, but it really didn’t like slot tech seeming to bottom out over the joints something no other car did the only thing I can put this down to was that it had some excess play in the center hinge giving some downward movement under braking, causing the body screws to contact the track

#17 Graham Windle

CLK. this car was built specifically for the event from commercially available parts and ran faultlessly over the weekend with no problems

#16 Graham Windle

Porsche gt1 A heavy shunt at Bolton put this car on the floor at the end of the main straight bending the front axle and making it unstable in the bends. When repaired ran faultlessly at Slot -tech

#18 Graham Windle

CLK plastic

The plastic chassied CLK was a handful for most drivers but could be got round very quick. A heavy shunt at Bolton broke the anti deck spine and split the car in 2 I repaired it quickly with glue but this then meant that the car was solid and had no plummer action causing it to be quite hoppy for the rest of the week end

All the cars were cleaned and oiled between races none required tyres or braid changes 2 required new spur gears and 2 had problems with lead wires every car except the plastic clk needed some attention to bodywork on the whole a good result cars stood up well considering some of the crashes would be approaching 30mph on all three tracks

.
