The diocese of Rome has banned filming in its churches of the prequel to the Da Vinci Code, a popular book and film that has angered many Catholics.
Producers of Angels and Demons were turned down because the film "does not conform to our views", a spokesman for diocese told AP news agency.
The Da Vinci Code in 2006 was based on the idea that Jesus Christ married Mary Magdalene and had children.
It also depicted a conservative Catholic movement as a murderous cult.
Release date
The diocese of Rome said it had barred the producers from filming in its two famous churches of Santa Maria del Popolo and Santa Maria della Vittoria in the heart of the Italian capital.
"It's a film that treats religious issues in a way that contrasts with common religious sentiment," Monsignor Marco Fibbi, the diocese spokesman, told AP.
"We would be helping them create a work that might well be beautiful but that does not conform to our view," he added.
Angels and Demons, directed by Ron Howard and starring Tom Hanks, is expected to be released next year.

Da Vinci's DVD version to include Malta's deleted scenes
The controversial scene in which Jesus weds Mary Magdalene shot in the Vittoriosa ditch, was left in the cutting room.
All that was shown which can be said to have been shot in Malta was a scene of Roman soldiers on horseback over a bridge, shot at the entrance to Vittoriosa.
However the other deleted scenes are expected to be included in the DVD version.
The DVD is set to include 28 minutes of deleted scenes and will be released worldwide on November 17.

I think it's about time I say something myself after all those letters about what I did.
First of all I don't have much comments but the best thing is that I did obey my superiors. Secondly, petitions are still coming in, so far the total is 4,178 and I end as I started... I would like to add that the way some Journalists on local News Papers write is DISGUSTING. They don't have any respect at all. They don't respect other opinions apart from their own. Is this what we call "Freedom of Expression"? Does this by any chance mean insulting the person you don't agree with?
Do you have to hurt the person you are writing about in your write-ups? If you call your work professional, allow me to say that you are wrong. I think some of you will be better off if they go to back to school once again in order to learn how to treat those people you don't agree with, and also in order to learn how you should be grateful to those buying the newspaper you write at (As you are being paid for it) instead of insulting them!
I insist however, that these are few of them not All.
