The progressive drum method
Progressive Drumming offers the BEST METHOD of drum instruction available today. By employing both audio and video technology in a home studio environment, students are able to see and hear their own playing, and make improvements accordingly. This is highly advantageous over typical drum instruction for several reasons.
First, it allows teachers and students to quickly identify and fix any trouble ar
eas that need addressing. The recording mechanisms are impartial observers that quickly tell the whole story. There is absolutely NOTHING BETTER than seeing and hearing yourself play to aid in efficient improvement.
Second, since the lessons are conducted in a professionally equipped, home-based recording studio, they allow students to become familiar with the actual process of recording in a no pressure "session" environment. This is critical for future success, because learning to record professionally is a skill that needs to be acquired and honed. This includes, but is not limited to: learning to play with click tracks and sequences, familiarization with drum programming and MIDI, and learning basic microphone selection and placement.
We utilize three drum kits. The first is a very cool set-up for children ages 4-7, built with smaller drums and cymbals to fit them just perfectly! The second is a full-sized "beginner" kit equipped with silencers for the study of fundamental technique and concepts. And the third is a Professional level drum kit outfitted with mesh heads, intergrated with V-Drum pads, and triggered via a Roland drum module into Cubase recording software and augmented with BFD and WAVES plug-ins. This allows for a real drum kit (not simply electronic drum pads) to be "volume controlled" and recordable with optimal sound recreation, while still providing the real feel of an actual drum kit. This truly is the ultimate teaching tool!!!
Add to all of this a quality instructor who emphasises fun and offers guidance and encouragement, and you have the formula for an amazing drum lesson experience like no other!!!
