BCWB Basketball Highlights

                  2009 BCWB Reunion Game

BCWB had their annual highly anticipated Reunion Game, which gives prior players the opportunity to play one more game in the summer league. BCWB does a great job matching up the participants and dividing them into two teams, one coached by the President of the league Wayne Whiten, for the East. The other team coached by Darryl Whiten, Vice President of the league, for the West.

The opening possession was a shot made by Curtis. He was difficult for the West team to defend, he was making shots left and right, and snatching almost every rebound that came his way.

The East team also had good performances from Derrick and Jeremy. Derrick had 15 points and Jeremy scored 11. Both players were key performers for the East side.

For the West team, they were led in scoring by Kortez, who had a total of 19 points. Kortez got help from Joel who had ten points, and both players helped to keep the West team in the game.

At halftime the score was 29 to 28 in favor of the West team. During halftime both teams were shooting around and laughing around with eachother. Returning player, Brad kept joking about how he was going for the BCWB assist record, and Raymond Whiten Sr, replied the record is 26 over the microphone, and all the players and the crowd got a great laugh out of that.

The second half the game really started to heat up. Players were trash talking in a friendly manner, saying "im going to dunk on you" and "you cant guard me", but it's great because its all out of fun. And really everyone is actually really close with eachother.

Through the early part of the second half was players jokeing around, and really ended up being a lot of back to back scoring. Then with about eight minutes left, the West began to try to give one more last efort. Dj Whiten came down and scored on a lay-up, then seconds later Raymond hit a foul shot. And the West were right back in the game.

Next the East coach, Darryl Whiten, called a time-out to talk to his players, and make some substitutions. With about six minutes left in the game Derrick dished a nice assist to Jeremy who dunked the ball and put the West up 9 points with 6 minutes left.

In the closing minutes of the game Joel threw down a huge dunk from the pass of Kortez. Joel also had another dunk later on in the game, off an assist from Whiten, who had 5 points of his own.

With forty-four seconds left in the game, Terrance Kerns made a lay-up and that seemed to be the deciding factor of who won this years Reunion game.

The final score ended up to be 70 tp 62, in favor of the East team. After the game both teams met up at center court to talk and enjoy themselves. It was a great way to re-unite with old teammates and have a good time.

But there are no winners here, this game is intended on having fun, and enjoying yourself.
