Many centuries ago, the evil spirit Dai Shi roamed freely across the Earth. He beleived that animals should be the planet's dominant species and in an effort to accomplish this goal, Dai Shi declared war on the human race. A group of talented and dedicated martial artists formed the Pai Zhua, the Order of the Claw, and managed to harness their animal spirits to overpower Dai Shi and imprison him. The duty to keep him sealed has been passed down through the generations with a trio of selected warriors on standby in case Dai Shi escaped.

As the Pai Zhua feared, Dai Shi resurfaces in present day and claims a human host, and three new warriors have been selected by the Pai Zhua to find and defeat it. Following the last words of their deceased Master, the students travel to Ocean Bluff, California. In their new home, the teens assume normal lives working under the guidance of their laid-back boss and former Pai Zhua student R.J, who trains them in harnessing their inner animal spirits to become the new generation of Power Rangers and prevent Dai Shi from claiming the planet as its own.

In time, a greater evil makes its presence known in the form of the Phantom Beasts. To combat this evil, the Rangers are joined by several new allies, including three Pai Zhua Masters and even a new Ranger. Together, they work to restore peace and harmony to the world using the spirits of the jungle.
