THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES TO BE STAGED IN CORNWALL

V-Day is a global movement to end violence against women and girls inspired by Eve Ensler's award winning play, The Vagina Monologues. V-Day was incorporated as a non-profit charity in 1998 with the intent of using performances of the play to raise money to benefit female victims of violence and sexual abuse. To that end, a steering committee has been formed to stage a performance of The Vagina Monologues here in Cornwall on Saturday, March 6, 2010.

The show will be staged in the Simon Fraser Ballroom at the Ramada Inn, 805 Brookdale Avenue. Seating will be cabaret style and curtain time is 7:00 pm. Advance tickets are $15.00 each and will be available at these locations beginning Friday, December 18th:

Strung Out Guitars, 601 Montréal Road
Cornwall and Seaway Valley Tourism Office,11 Water Street West

Admission at the door is $20.00. All proceeds will benefit SASS - Sexual Assault Support Services for Women of Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry and Akwesasne.

If you're a theatre lover with a social conscience and want to do your bit to help end violence against women, the organizers of the show invite you to take part in Cornwall's first ever production of this internationally renowned (it's been translated into forty-five languages) and groundbreaking play. Approximately twenty actresses of various ages and types are required as well as all manner of stage crew and pre-production staff.

While the show is obviously aimed at women and their empowerment, men are welcome to come forward, too. Men's mothers, daughters, sisters, grandmothers, friends, coworkers and other family are all touched by the scourge of domestic violence. It's a human and societal problem of such magnitude that both genders must be involved to end it.

If you'd like to audition for the show or if you're interested in working backstage, please send an email to vdaycornwalltvm@hotmail.com with your name, your phone number and how you'd like to participate. For media inquiries, please phone 613-930-5094.
