Lancashire County Council Incentive Scheme

We have had quite a few emails asking about Lancashire County Council's new 2006/07 nappy incentive scheme. The scheme is now  open to applicants who didn't take part in the last scheme (2005/06) and takes the form of a voucher for £45 off  the price of nappies or nappy laundry services  from the council's list of participating suppliers.

Please call LCC on 0845 0500 957 or check out their website http://www.lancashirewasteinfo.com for details

Night Nappies

Q Hi, I am quite happy to use cloth nappies during the day but as yet haven't plucked up courage to use them at night. I'm just not convinced that my son won't have wet pyjamas in the morning. Have you any tips?  Joanne N in Ashton

Night nappies need a slightly different approach to day time ones as your child will be wearing the nappy for a much longer period of time. I would suggest you make sure the nappy has plenty of extra boosting to add extra absorbancy. This can take the form of booster pads, folded flannels or even cut up pieces of towel. Place the extra padding in the centre of the nappy and cover with a liner. None of my children have ever woken up in the night because their nappies were wet but, if you are concerned about wetness, try a fleece liner instead of a paper one. You could even try a pocket nappy which has a fleece inner. Fleece will ensure that your baby has a dry bottom  Give night nappies a try - they do work honestly!

How many do I need for twins?

Q Hiya, I have newborn twins and am determined to use cotton nappies but don't know how many nappies I need. I have read that you need about 20-25 nappies with one baby. Does this mean I need 40-50 for two?   Melanie in Fulwood

Hi Melanie, If you have twins you will need to wash your nappies more often as your washing machine will only hold so many nappies and you will probably need to buy two nappy buckets . You will need around 30 nappies (only half as many again as you would need for one baby.)
