Welcome to Prairie Creations Home for Birds!!  This place is all about providing a home for our feathered friends - and maybe a few other things too!!

I grow all my own gourds here on our farm on the prairie.  It takes nearly a year from planting time until gourds are ready to be made into a beautiful birdhouse.  Every gourd is a different shape and size so no two birdhouses are ever the same.  I've done different types of decorations on the gourds, but my favorite is to paint the gourd a bright color and then decorate it with recycled copper wire that I bend to shape and solder on different decorations.  I always coat the finished birdhouse with at least 3 coats of polyurethane to weather proof the paint.  I would suggest bringing the birdhouse in during the winter months and spraying on another coat of polyurethane before placing outside again in the spring.  All gourds are ready to inhabit with drainage holes drilled in the bottom and a wire hanger to hang them wherever you wish.
