Here's the second article from Ign.com:
"March 12, 2003 - We revealed earlier in the week that Midway's GBA team is working on a sequel to last year's portable rendition of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. The game at the time of the article had a tentative title, but Midway has now revealed the official name of the sequel: Mortal Kombat: Deadly Revenge.
Just as we originally reported, Mortal Kombat: Deadly Revenge will feature both old and new characters in its design, as well as a few new features. The sequel will have four-player link function, as well as connection to the original GBA version of Deadly Alliance.
Expect a release of the game this summer. We'll have more details on Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance as they're made available."

Here's the first article from Ign.com:
"March 07, 2003 - Midway's not done with its Mortal Kombat fighting property, as the company will be publishing a Game Boy Advance-exclusive sequel to Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance this summer.
Retailers lists have started to show Mortal Kombat Advance 2 as an upcoming Game Boy Advance game, but the game is definitely not a sequel to the horrible GBA port of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 released in December 2001. The team responsible for Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance is working on this sequel which expands on the fighter released during the holiday.
Though development is still early, the company has stated that the game will feature both old and new characters, as well as a new four-player link mode. The as-yet-unnamed sequel (Mortal Kombat Advance 2 is the tentative title) will even link up to the original Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance for some multiplayer action as well as special data trading which will unlock hidden specials in the new game.
This sequel is exclusive to the Game Boy Advance, as it's not a development based upon any console or arcade version of Mortal Kombat. It's currently scheduled for release this August, and we'll have more details as the game continues into its development cycle.

The "new" characters it will have, will most likely be the ones that didn't get ported from the console versions of MKDA. But Ray DeGuzman of Midway (see full messages below) has stated that there will be entirely new characters!

News from MK5.org states that:
scorpzero2 from the MK5.org message boards posted:
rayrokka posted another message on the MK5.org message boards:
"I have seen some endings for the charachters...there will be secret characters available, that were not in any of the MKDA games. "
We believe that this game will offer almost everything that Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance didn't have. This means: More characters, more finishing moves (such as stage fatalities and more regular fatalities), and more secrets.
"In the forum thread for the news update, forum member rayrokka (Ray DeGuzman of Midway) hinted at a secret character, saying, "I sure do love `ketchup' with my fries...""
"I supose every one knows what that guy ment by "i like KETCHUP with my fries". he is talking about SECTOR because in MK:DA when you unlock the picture of CYRAX and SECTOR standing next to each you read the info and it says "theese two characters were known as mustard (CYRAX) and ketchup (SECTOR) how kool would that be."
