Story:
The Shaolin Tournament for Martial Arts...

For ages it was a competition of honor and glory. Noble warriors from around the globe were invited to take part, each seeking to win the title of Grand Champion.

But that was a long time ago... before the tournament was corrupted by the evil demon Shang Tsung, a warrior who took not only the lives of his opponents, but their very souls...

With the aid of his pupil Goro, a hideous half-human dragon, Tsung began a domination of the contest which has lasted for centuries.

Today, 500 years later, the contest begins anew as warriors once again gather to partake in Mortal Kombat.

Play As Smoke?: This code is a fake and does NOT work! It was rumored (from many websites), that you could unlock Human Smoke and play as him. How could this even be? Human Smoke did not show up until MKII. And the code to do it (shown below) says you will hear "Toasty", which was first heard in MKII-- not MK1.

The Code: "At the title screen press Up, Up, Left, Right, A, B, A, B, Up, Down, Up. If done correctly, you should hear "Toasty" Now pick Rayden, and Smoke will be at your control."

Justin's Review
Graphics: (7/10) You can see the characters decently, but the backgrounds are dull and not so detailed.
Sound: (6/10) The music gets old and boring after a while.
Play Control: (5/10) The game is slow! This makes it harder for you to perform a character's special move or fatality!
Satisfaction: (6/10) A nice try for the first MK Game Boy game, but the downside is how slow it is.

Problems when played on the GB Color
- Goro's legs flash of different colors.

Problems when played on the GB Advance
- Same as the GB Color (above).
- Now that the Select and Start buttons are on the other side, it is harder to perform the Goro code.

Problems when played on the GB Advance SP
- The cartridge sticks out.
- The buttons are smaller.

Problems when played on the Super GB
- No 2-player

Paul's Review
Graphics: (7/10) The graphics are fairly decent for such an early game. All of the levels are recognizable, although molested a bit for the system.
Sound: (4/10) Slow with no real beats or energy.
Play Control: (7/10) It's slow and is extremely picky about how fast you input controls. But once you find the correct timing to execute moves, it becomes more fun to play.
Satisfaction: (6/10) If you have the patience, you can play it, but don't expect any real action. Also, the finishers suck.
