Having problems? Can't find Chobits no matter how hard you look? Don't understand something? Well, here's my attempt to help out. If none of these applies to your situation, my e-mail is psychonana@hotmail.com.
-- "Help! Where do I get Chobits?" --
Gak. You haven't done your homework. Well, I'll still help! ;) You have a number of options (sorted by cost to you):
BUY LICENSED COPIES - If Chobits is licensed in your area, you should be able to find it in video stores that carry anime. In America (and English-speaking countries), Pioneer has licensed the series.
BUY FANSUBS BY MAIL - I do this occasionally. It works like this: some magnanimous anime fan starts a distro, and he/she takes your order for tapes/CDs of fansubs of anime series to be sent to you. The distro operator is not allowed to charge over media cost & shipping for the tapes/CDs, so make sure you don't pay too much. Also, be careful. You'd be giving out your name and address to a total stranger. The fact that they're anime fans doesn't mean they're harmless. Find others who have ordered from someone before you do the same. I can make recommendations if you like; e-mail me at psychonana@hotmail.com.
SUBSCRIBE TO A FILESHARING SERVICE - I do this, too. I'm a proud Streamload member (www.streamload.com - nonpaid URL!). It works like this: anime fans upload media files of fansubbed episodes to the Streamload server, and then send you the link to the file on the server so you can download it to your hard drive. Streamload will allot you a certain quota of megabytes to download per month, depending on how much you pay. Free accounts are worthless.
IRC (Internet Relay Chat) [free] - I do this as well, but mostly for manga. My Internet connection is so temperamental it can't be trusted for large files. IRC works like this: you enter a chat room with nice people running "fserve"s. You follow that chat room's protocol for requesting a file, and then it is sent to you by the fserve operator. This is kinda complicated, though, so I suggest you try to find a tutorial somewheres.
FTP (File Transfer Protocol) [free] - If you have a download manager that lets you configure retry intervals this will work for you. (And also please tell me which one you use! Net Vampire expired on me. [cries]) I know of one site that has Chobits on its FTP: After 2000 Anime. Just put the link into your donwload manager and hope you can get a spot.
BEG ME [free] - If none of these works for you or you have problems, e-mail me and I'll try to find some way to fix it or to find you an alternative. E-mail me at psychonana@hotmail.com and ask for my help. That's all. Just tell me your problem(s), and I'll get to work. I LOVE work.
-- "I can't get the media files to play on my computer!" --
It's almost definitely because you lack the DivX codec. This codec makes it possible to have better media quality without tremendous file sizes, which is why almost every .avi file you encounter will be encoded this way. It's GREAT, believe me. Anyway, you need to get the codec, and you can get it here. Get the latest version. It's always better.
-- "I'm a freeloader on Streamload! Can I do anything with my account?" --
Well, yeah, but it takes a LOT more work than it's worth. If you wanna do anything you'll have to: find someone who's split the files and have them send them to you, since freeloaders can only download files less than 10MB in size. Once you've downloaded all the parts of the split file, you can join it back together. You'll need joining software for that; get it here. Oh, and BTW, since freeloaders also cannot download more than 50MB per week, it might take a while to get all the parts. That's why you should get a paid account! It's SO much better!
[from above question] - So then couldn't I just sign up for a bunch of freeloader accounts? Then I wouldn't have to worry about weekly/monthly limits.... -
Don't do that. DON'T. First of all, Streamload is way too beneficial to everyone else for you to take advantage of it that way. You'd risk ruining it for the rest of us. Imagine, if they had to shut down because of dishonest people and not a legimate reason.... I would be WICKED PISSED. Second, Streamload is not a bunch of idiots with a ton of big-a** servers. They are very tech-savvy. As soon as you download a file they know what your ISP account name is. And if you download from a different SL account using that same ISP account, they will catch you and ban you. It's a fact. They WILL. In a couple weeks if not immediately, you'll be SOL when it comes to SL.
-- "I want you to hurry up with the Chobits transcripts. I mean, they can't be THAT hard! How lazy ARE you?" --
Well, let me just say that it's a good thing for the general public that I wrote that and not some whiny ingrate. The transcripts ARE NOT easy! They take me at least three hours apiece, and that's if they play perfectly and the subtitling is perfect. And Chobits takes longer than CCS for some reason. Maybe because I don't like it that much. On an average day of transcribing I can finish one if I work continuously all afternoon and if I'm not watching Star Trek at the same time or something. And Star Trek is on constantly now. Love, love, love TNN! "Hey Mike, would you? ... I would." Holy crap, but that's a riot.

The Chobits Episode Transcript Project <~> Psycho NaNa
I do not own Chobits; it is owned by CLAMP and affiliated corporations. However, I typed up these transcripts myself, and, as such, I have protection under US copyright law. If they are used without my permission I am within my rights to press charges. So don't steal, okay?
