Plymouth City Mercury Lighting

Laira- A GEC ZD10877 lantern running a 125w MBF/U lamp. The lantern is controlled by a NEMA cell on top of the canopy, and this appears to be a factory fitted option. The lantern probably dates from the early 1980s. The column is a 5m GEC hexagonal steel type. This particular installation is owned by a housing association, so is not council owned or maintained. This explains its survival, as Mercury lighting has been all but phased out from streetlighting in the city. Unfortunately the outer globe has sustained a bit of vandal damage, but the lantern is still complete.
