Plymouth City Mercury Lighting

This 80w MBF/U GEC Z8896 is the sole survivor of this very common installation across the city back lanes. It is the only example to still remain operational with a timeclock- in this case a Sangamo clock. The lamp and choke were changed in 1998, but no maintenance appears to have been carried out since. Indeed, if the column was on the streetlighting record, it would have succumbed to timeclock removals already.

Update- 2008: a new 80w lamp and outer globe have recently been fitted, meaning the lantern is running like new again.
