Plymouth City Mercury Lighting

A very unusual find is this GEC Z5580BP on a path. This lantern is running an old, dim mercury lamp, but the control has either been removed or is faulty as it is burning-in-day. The column is a cast of some description, and there appears to be a control box for the control gear. The swan neck seems to be still in the old Silverine paint used before the present grey colour, which means that it hasn't been painted since at least the early 1980s. I presume that the column has just been forgotten by the council, as I don't expect that a private owner would want to pay for the light to be burning 24 hours a day!
