By 2006, there are very few lanterns left in service with clear glass bowls. Luckily, this GEC Z5590 in Taunton has survived complete with glass 'teardrop' type bowl. The lamp is Mercury, and control is by a 2-part cell. The lantern also retains its inner refractor ring. The column is a 5m Stanton & Staveley concrete.
Taunton is also home to an estate lit by loads of the GEC Z5590 lanterns. These examples have polycarbonate bowls however, and most of these are very cloudy through years of UV rays from the Mercury lamps. The columns are 5m Concrete Utilities.
