Lyme Regis Lighting Pictures

(Photos taken in 2006)

A lot of side roads in the town had its lighting upgraded in the early 1980s, and this was using one of the first 70w SON lanterns on the market at the time; the Thorn Beta 79. These are the first generation all-metal types with polycarbonate bowls.

One of the main roads had its lighting upgraded in the past with Thorn Alpha 8 150w SON lanterns. When these were installed, the existing lighting (consisting of GEC Z8691 Mercury lanterns on wood pole mounts) was removed. Amazingly though, a pair of the lanterns were missed, and have been left abandoned ever since. Lamps are still fitted, although the lanterns are long since unlit.
