This has to be one of the best places I have ever found for GEC group B side-entry Mercury lanterns. The village main road is lit in its entirety by aluminium Thorn Alpha 8 lanterns, but the side roads are a different story.
There are no less than 4 rare GEC Z8491 lanterns with their original glass bowls. These are very early examples of the range, as the lampholder is at the rear of the lantern.
There are also 5 Z8596 lanterns, and a few of them still carry glass bowls. These are slightly later variants, and could have been casual replacements, as there seems to be no pattern to their location.
Finally there are a couple of the gear in head variant, the Z8691.
