This GEC Z8430 is extremely rare. Not only is it the early predecessor to the more common Z8430CM, but it is a top entry version. I have never seen any other top entry survivors to this day. The lantern is apparently under the conservation order which has been placed on the building, which is why it has never been replaced.

Nearby is a standard GEC Z8430- note the different bowl design. This example was On-By-Day on this occasion. The lantern has now been replaced with a WRTL MRL6.

On a road where all other lanterns were replaced by Davis GR70s, this GEC Z5559DB has amazingly survived. It is mounted to a concrete electricity pole, and is still in great condition.
