Originally I thought that Chudleigh's lighting was pretty much all now modern SON, but a night-time passing on the nearby A38 meant that a cluster of Mercury lanterns were spotted. A closer inspection revealed an amazing estate which still was home to a good few side entry Mercury lanterns.
Firstly, a good 5 or so of these very rare Phosco P177 lanterns are in place on Stewart & Lloyd steel columns. Lamps appear to be 80w MBF.
There's also the same number again of GEC's offering- the Z8596.
One example on a plainer bracket even has a glass bowl.
A casual replacement probably in the 1980s was this GEC Z8896.
