Monday

Went back to concord! Took 75, then changed to 67, then to 300. The guard was quite nice. She let me in. Although I still had to record my name down in the visitor book. I nearly forgot that the band room was at the 3 rd floor.When I went in the band room, it was break time so I could give my present to Mrs Goh (the appasionata CD). mrs Goh says Mr Goh (the other instructor) has a niece who is also in NYCB! :) But she didn't say who.

Then they played some CHristmas songs. They're playing on the 2nd of Dec at the BIrdpark. The band played "Jingle bell rock" and "Frosty the snowman" I think. To be frank it actually sounded terrible. All the percussionists(also my old section) were fidgeting like mad and poor Mrs Goh had to stop every 5 minutes to scold them ... And the sound is also terrible. I think their dreams of gold for SYF next year will remain a dream if they don't ever buck up.

Today

BAND PRAC!! I WAS ON TIME!!!! :@) Today the entire section came. We went outside and did warmups and rolls and stuff for like, 2 hours. Janabel was apparently very hungry (did she eat breakfast?) and kept talking about food. Then we did semiquavers starting and accenting on the left hand. I didn't know it was so hard :( Nice Xinyi guided us while Lorraine and Valentia played with a snake cube, and Janabel went to scout out the band room to see if Mr Lee finished. SHe came back only to announce that he was doing the Bach Chorales, which are as boring and unproductive as his tuning sessions. Then we sat outside and moaned. Then finally Janabel came back with what was thought to be good news: Mr Lee was playing October. So we went in and played the October-lish October song. Its the boring-est song that ever exsited on the face of this earth.

Then he demanded that we play Jalan-Jalan. Since Janabel came back, poor me couldn't play the nice vibes part and the nice woodblock part anymore. So sad....sia. Had to play the entire boring bass drumand sus.cymbal part. Oh well. At least if we're playing it for SYF I won't be playing the bass drum part. Look @ my calculations: 2009, the only people in the current section that are playing will be the sec 1 and 2s. So the sec1 and 2s will get a better part by then cuz by that time they will be sec 3 and 4s...hahaha....my maths rocks like a rock

Then we went for lunch at this noodle place. And Hui Juan and Snail and LZ CAME BACK!!!! :) Ate this Pineapple rice thingy. SPICY. ... Hui Juan apparently got a part time job, doing surveys for a supermarket. I THINK so. Every syrvey done=$3

Then went back for sectionals. No comment. Except for that my bass Drum part sounds horrible and it sounds like a CANNON.

In remembrance of what Lorraine the Pro said, I've been trying to rewrite Moonlight Densetsu into a perc ensemble song in case we don't find anything. The diff.part is , nobody plays electric guitar so I'm rewriting the the guitar part into the marimba ;) Hey its much more difficult than you think...Lorraine you can have the drumset part :)

PERCS ATTETION PLEASE :) What colour you like best? I'm getting Perc section a combined present for X-mas. The item is top secret however, so JOY, DO NOT GO AROUND TELLING PEOPLE WHAT IT IS AFTER I TOLD YOU. Its however highly beneficial to the section.

Thursday
BAND PRAC ON THURSDAY! :) For once I was on time! :) Everyone in perc except for Charlotte and Janabel was there. Lorraine was really nice, she bought gifts for everyone in the section from Shanghai ok! :) And the keychain have our names printed on one side and "Percussion" printed on the other side. They're really pretty :)

Then MS CHONG CAME!!!! Its nice to have her after Mr Lee taking all the previous pracs. Then we played Celebration Overture. Lorraine actually asked me to play the drumset! :) I guess the whole thing went okay since I know how to play most of the song, except for 2 very diffcult bars that Lorraine haven't taught me yet. It was quite fun actually. After that we played Pirates of the carribean. Mr Lee is apparently against Pirates of the Carribean, because he haven't played it in all the hours he had being with us. I played the mallets :) It was fun! The toms part is also quite nice. After that we played Furniculi-Furnicula. Played xylo and chimes. Its quite a nice song. especially the trombone solo in the eariler part of the song. After that ms Chong made us play Jalan jalan. I played Bass Drum and Valentia made me play the wood blocks part. It wasn't so bad actually. :) Then I got to play the vibes part as well. THANKYOU JANABEL ONCE AGAIN FOR TEACHING ME TO PLAY WITH 4 MALLETS :) Then Miss Chong said that Jalan Jalan could be our 2009 SYF SONG!!!! OMG. I suggest we play something nicer like Furniculi Furnicula for SYF. Jalan Jalan is "cute"(as qouted by JOy) but not exactly the ideal SYF song.

Then LUNCH! :)Went to Coronation. Me and Joy went to eat Golden Chicken's fried rice again :)Xinyi agrees with Valentia---me eating fried rice with chopsticks is weird :D

Then we had sectionals. We tries out like 5 or 6 perc ensemble songs, none of which were suitable to be even played in public ok. And the horns people were all laughing at us. ...

Friday
P6 farewell!! :) It was quite ok. The concert stuff were quite fun, and I got to see Adrea and Natalie and the pig again :) The buffet was quite spicy though.

Before band there was this American maths competition thingy. The one Mr Tiong says its good exposure. So yep bumped into Joy and Theo, and then into YangJie outside GO. :) Then saw Pauline @ outside audi. Saw Val as well. We were just hanging around outside and we went to check LT 1 but there was no one there. So we just waited outside with eveyone else. Then Rachel told us to go in, so we all went in. Then Joy got very hyper cuz she saw a lot of people she knew.

The paper itself wasn't so bad. ONly 25 Questions. but only 40 mins, so it was qutie rushy. Can answer about 1/2 of them. Which is quite good :)

Then after AMC went to lib and saw WANTON MEE!!!! :) Her String Ensemble prac wasn't supposed to start till 1/30 and she messed up the timing and came here @ 9. ... Then went up to Band Room to do some Music theory. Then I was on time for the first time in the holidays for band! ;) Only us Sec 1s and Valentia. Lorriane vapourised. It was ok for Sectionals. We went through the accents and warmups and did semiquavers. Then I went to do Disney Fantasy on the timp and prac-ed my solo opening. That's so cool right? SOLO opening. On the timp. Only the whole thing's damned out of tune, I don't know how we can even play. When I make my first billion I shall immediately get NYGH NYCB Perc a brand new timpani set. 4 new timps + new drumset, so nobody can complain anymore. Then hui Juan came and we did Pirates.

Then went for section lunch (Hj went away). To coro. Yes me and Char went to buy sushi and then went up to GOlden chicken and got fried rice. Then we were sitting there and we FINALLY managed to talk quite a bit to Valentia. I"M TALKING! Then Valentia was like, "Xichen how come you're eating fried rice with chopsticks! OHOHOH I know you live in Shanghai" ... My house is in Singapore. Anyway the chopsticks aren't that diff to use. Then Char couldn't finsh her food again so we helped her! I tasted on of her cheese sushi. Right. CHEESE. And everyone was like, Huh? Weird taste? Iand I finally acieved enlightenment!

Then after that Mr Lee came and took us for warmups. we went outside and did some stuff. Playing triplets, warmups and stuff. Then we went in and was like, wow, we sat outside for 1 hour. but mr Lee insisited on continuing into like, 3.15. so we had no choice but to also do warmups.

We should have stayed out.

Then the Bach tingy again. Valentia also decided that whoever who wants to play can just go and play the timp part. Then we just sat there drawing on my SMS foolscap and Valentia picked up a Apassionata XII programme booklet. XII was in 2004. According to the booklet its on 10th JANUARY 2004. So early. Saw Andrea and Crystal's name on the booklet :) Then Valentia found a postcard with Sudoku on it :) And the prize is a vacumn cleaner. and we were laughing like crazy. We all had to cover our mouths in case Mr Lee hears. :) !

Then he made us play "GLory and Triumph". Some national day song.

Went home and listened to the Appasionata X CD we found! Phantom of the Opera is nice, and so is Persis Overture and the Widzard of Oz :)

I don't know. maybe he has a point. Since its the holidays now, maybe I shall change skin again!!!! :) This time to a nicer one. Will reconsider later.

Started Archiving.

I just made a fun blogskin for percussion, seeing that how everyone desperately needs one. I used the current blogskin and sprinkled sugar, spice and everything nice on it ok. Yep went to blogskins.com and searched for a nice blog template, found one and sort of combined the 2 together, this time using the other blogskin's navi bar and stuff. And the end product is quite nice. okay. Which is this.
Then I went back to blogger and tried it there but IT DOESN"T WORK!!!!!!!! :( Must have done something wrond somewhere. I'm so hopeless @ HTML.

Anyway there's band tommorrow. Lorraine and Valentia have come back, so we won't be alone any more. Actually me and Joy were kinda hoping you guys wouldn't come back for another week, so as to give us junoirs more time to relax and enjoy the un-tense atmosphere. Note: This does not mean we DON'T want you all back of course. hehe, its no fun hogging the top parts for toooooo long. FOr a while its nice. :) Last week has been fun with no senoirs around :) So relaxed :)

We got a new home theatre., which will be delivered on Thursday. Its quite cool actually, there are like 6 speakers.

--> Band Prac 9th Nov

OK I have to admit I have a total knack for being late for band prac. Because I was late, again. Poor Joy :( she took attendance alone. Then we prac-ed warmups, rolls and accents. Then inspired by Janabel's wise words of wisdom we decided to memorise the whole of accents!!!! Every prac memorise 2 bars. Then someone took us for warmups. Then our BM told us that due to communication problems, mr lee would only come @ 10.30. So she took us for another warmup session, with stricter tones then usual, due to the drop in banding standards.

Then Mr Lee came for another lengthy warmup session. Then he wanted to do some Bach Chorale thingy, and me and Joy was like, huh? So we rummaged around the books pile and only found the timpani part, so Joy went to play it but only to come back a few minutes later looking confused. So decided to do something more productive and we, *ahem. This shall be a big surprise for my senoirs when they go back on tue. But give you a clue, we emptied the dustbin.

Then Mr Lee did Celebration. I took the drum set as before. I actually improved!!! I can at least play through most of the song with the band. THen @ the very end Mr Lee ran through the entire song and took me to act as the conductor lols. But it was quite fun. If Sec 3s can do it why not Sec 1s :-)

After that Joy and me stayed back to practise, *ahem shall not tell. Then I went down to Pop to get new clips for the section. The clips are quite nice. Metal and very shiny. 6 in a pack.

Then walked to the busstop and saw JOY! Then she say she want to come to my house cause her brother invited 11 of his friends over to her house lols. And anyway her mother tolf her to get lunch herself. So I said OK! :) And then we took 74 to my house. It was a double decker, so cool right! We sat on top @ the front window seat!!!!!! Its quite cool to watch houses go by on top, cuz its very high and sort of fun. Then when we reached the busstop we walked to sunset way to buy lunch for Joy.Then we walked around Sunset way and showed her all the eateries. Then we walked back to my hosue, and Joy told me her Candy Cane story! Its like one Christmas when Joy was very small her cousin hanged real candy canes on the tree. REAL ONES THAT YOU CAN EAT! Then her aunt go and hang all the canes on top of the tree where poor Joy couldn't reach :( But in the end she got them of course :)

Then we went to my house :) Then Joy was like, " your house is soooo cosy!!!!!" So nice of her right! Then we walked around the house and showed her some stuff, then we had lunch in the dining room. Then we blogged and watched Barbie as The Island Princess on youtube. I think it quite changed Joy's outlook on Barbie :) MR TAN DON"T GO AROUND POSTING THAT AQUA BARBIE SONG SO I HAVE TO GO AROUND CHANGING MISCONCEPTIONS

I was just reading my previous post on C & D and realised its not very detailed or anything. So here the new and improved version :

Our dressing room was on the first floor, where we percussionists banged out during appasionata. As our whole class of 35 had to squeeze into that tiny makeup room, and with a lot of people running hyper under the influnce of makeup, it was quite stuffy and hot. So after putting on my costume and putting on my makeup, which was done by Sunyang the sheep :) I went outside. And I must really pay a compliment to Sunyang here, as she helped me put on all my amkeup, foundation and blusher and eyeliner and eyeshadow. and it was her first time doing a lot of stuff okay. So she did really really well. A round of applause!!!!! And it was like, really really good. All the makeup was put in exactly the right quantity and in the right place. :):):) And it was her first time putting on eye liner. So hugs and kisses to Sheep :)

As mentioneed earlier, the dressing room was really suffocating ok. So sheep, wanton mee and me went outside to cool down, and to reahearse with our half one last time. Then we went to buy hot dogs. To show my support for 101, I bought a fruit satay from them :) The pineapple was nice. Then we went backstage again, after grabbing a copy of the night's programme. Then Joy wanted one too so we went outside to take one for her but they didn't have any more :(

Okay then the programme started. Our class was forced to be locked insde the suffocating room so we were very noisy. The backstage people came in and complained about 5 times that we could be heard from the stage.

The macbeth thingy. The ending was a bit you-know-what. But during the rehearsal Mr Ng shouted @ the withces to get a new cauldron stand because theirs have wheel and would slide off the platform eventually, so I didn't know if they really changed it.

OUR PERFORMANCE!!!! My clothes changing was quite messed up. I nearly didn't have enough time. My shawl was crooked and I didn't pin my dress.

I LIKE THIS ONE!!!! HSBC vs. OCBC :) Josh was quite pityful @ the end lah, "why couldn't I be contented with Amanda??!! I had to go for a richer and prettier girl, first Amanda, then (her twin sister) Abigail, then Jessica!"

I love this one okay. The part where Mrs lee go to the police station was quite funny.
Detective: "(Drum roll) HELLO!!!! I am the great Sherlock, and this is my home! I am SHERLOCK HOLMES!!!"
Mrs Lee: "This is my Daughter."
D. "Don't you mean, daughters?"
ML. "No no, this is Daughlly (dolly) and this is Terly. Daughter!"

After the whole show we had to return the gong stand. So me and Joy tried to plead with Mr Ng to let us leave it in the audi backstage, but he refused. So went up to the 3rd floor and, EEEKKKK!!!!! COCKROACH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TWO OF THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IN THE DARK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We were like screaming our heads off. Joy volunteered to walk in front of me. Then we tiptoed to the band room there and it was like so dark and scary. Ghostly too. So we just left it @ the bags place and ran back, screaming all time.

--> Choral and Drama Nite

AT LAST! :) Shall only blog about the performance as I have already posted about the rehersal. Went to school at about 4.45 and reached there just nice. Our dressing room was at the first floor, where we percs banged out during appasionata.put on my costume, then was forced to put on makeup: foundation and stuff. My personal makeup atist was Sunyang. She's a very good makeup artist. She put on foundation, blusher, eye-liner and eyeshadow for me. Nice of her r8!

Then we were hanging around and ran through the performance one time. Then went to eat hotdogs and to show my support for 101, I bought one of their fruit satays :)

The audience had a good laugh in this one. Jolyn borrowed my white roses cuz she pretended to be the dead body. Then after her scene she got up and ran to the curtains. The audience was laughing so hard at Jolyn. Cuz the dead body re animated! The people doing Taiji quan was quite cute :)

Serious piece. joy didn't get this one, and I had to watch it twice to get it.

Oh yes Joy's right. This one got the loudest applause. Everyone's so pleased to get one they could understand after Mental Musical.

This is it! Today's the big day of our choral and drama night show. This morning had to sit through a longggggg 5 hour full dress rehersal. our turn was quite OK. Then Sheep and I went to the audi, only to find we couldn't get in. So we had to be content with the top floor. Which was quite nice, actually. In overall the Sec 2 classes had a poor time, been (Being?) yelled at by Mr Nick. He has a really loud voice, and when he yells at you its really, really scary. For one class, for example, at the last part when the gril's mom tell her that her boyfriend is really a ghost whose body had been found dead a week ago, she doesn't believe her and goes, "I just saw ... this morning!..., ...". Then a car wen to hit her and she died the same way as her boyfriend. And Mr Ng was unsatisfied with the way the gril got hit, probably it was too fake? So the poor girl redid her dying scene about 8 times.

So @ about 4.30 I'm going off to sch again. :)

Today's band prac totally rawked ok. without senoirs breathing down our necks the atmosphere in the band room is so much more relaxed. We had sectionals, in which I prac-ed Disney Fantasy. I worked out where I needed to change the sound of the timpani. I figured out that the C on the second smallest timpani sounds the same as the C on the smallest timpani, so I could figure out the changing. The starting notes are F, G, C, D, in order of increasing timpani diameter. So smart of me :) Then practised changing the pedaling , which means playing through the whole song twice. Had to work a little more on the opening--the timp has a solo opening.Which Miss Chong was very unsatisfied with the last time she heard it. Probably because of my inexpertise in timpani playing. Also, in remembrance of Lorraine the pro, we practised our semiquavers in the timing you wanted---160. Also tried out the drumset part for Celebration and practised rolling on the snare.

Nice Joy then accompanied me to Popular to buy school stuff and to buy masking tape. Unluckily me managed to get an $$18 reciept. I should have bought something more so I could get a stickerrr. Then went back to band, and we tuned played October. For 2 hours. After that Mr Lee gave us a short break out of sheer exasperation. Then we came back to be delighted to find out we are not playing October again, instead we're playing some new piece called You Will Never Walk Alone. we good old junoirs managed to cover almost every part. joy covered the imp, Char with the glock and me with the drumset. So cool right? It was okay and fun. That was the first time I played drumset in a song. Then Mr Lee insisted on Celebration Overture. I had to cover the drumset part again. No complaints though, because I just found out that its fun to play the drumset. So yep covered the part. Well, almost all of it anyway. couldn't figure out how to play the last part so I made up a fancy ending of my own.

I LEARNT HOW TO PLAY WITH 4 MALLETS!!! I LOVE YOU JANABEL< WHO TAUGHT ME!!!!!!!!

Tommorrow's my Choral and Drama Night. As the lead actress 1, I'm starting to feel nervous about my changing of clothes right on the stage. Right, according to good old Joy, I'm in a better state because I'm wearing my school uniform inside but Wei Shan is wearing a singlet, so she is more bao lu. Just hopes I have enough time to change. The other day I watched the show, it looks like the spot where I'm changing behind the gong looks very obvious from the second floor of audi.

I'm going to start archiving my posts. Since this is not like blogger, I have to copy and paste and delete all the old posts, and create a new webpage with the old posts. Haha, tommorrow we junoirs are goning to run wild. Its weird to think all the senoirs are gone and we're in charge of the place.

Thankyew very much dear old Joy for calling me the "mallet person" in your post. Frankly I've never being so flattered before.

Okay so on Saturday me, SunYang and Zhi Yuan (dear old Sheep and Mosquito Blubber) went to the zoo.Barely after we went in, poor Sheep suffered the agony of three mosquito bites. My bottle of insect repleeant was pratically used up by her...Moz. says its because mosquitoes like "O" blood, since "O" is a universal blood donor, even to the mosquitoes. We went to see the cute little meerkats, otters,monkeys and polar bears before going for lunch. We ate @ Restarants in the Wild. Its really very expensive. One plate costs like $7.50. And drinks cost $2.80. Then someone brought 2 snakes around and Sheep was scared stiff. I had to go to the people and tell them not to go anywhere near Sheep.

Then after lunch we went to see the girafees and zebras. The place was quite smelly, and Sheep and Moz couldn't stand it. Sheep nearly vomited. Poor Sheep :( We also saw :=8 ) baboons. Then we went to animal land, where there is nothing to see actually. So we detoured back to playland. There we had some games of Chinese Chess with the chess set I bought Moz. Recently there was a Chinese Chess heat wave that rose up in our class. Everyone's just playing the game 24/7.

That's about all actually. Next month we're going to the bird park :) Bird park is more fun than zoo actually.

I love Hoshi :) The Jap resturant @ IMM. OMG the food is super nice ok. :):):)

Next week's band prac is going to be fun :) no senoirs around, cuz Valentia is gone, so is Lorraine and Janabel. I don't know about XinYi, but I don't think she's coming. But she didn't say anything about Celebration overture, so if Mr Lee wants to play that I get to play the drum set cuz I'm the only one with some experience. So hope that Celebration will NOT be played.

This one is my unrivaled favourite of the night's programme. Joy says she didn't get it but I did. The ending was very beautiful and just so touching, when the other girl was so full of remorse for killing Cindy, and she was gracefully pirouetting around and death came to bring her to where Cindy was. Its like the sort of thing that Mr Tan would like, I think. but it would be more romantic if the person the girl killed was someone she loved or something. Then it would be more convincing that she was so remorseful that she was willing to die to pay for her mistake. very touching, actually.

Okay this one will loosen you up after the serious and touching "A twist of Fate". My Chess senoir acted as the Donald duck stall owner :) The blue shirt stall :) And the two stalls were arguing over the customers, haha, that was so funny! "Buy chiken rice and get free tissue!" "No buy duck rice and get free sweet!"

This is one play with laughter and seriousness mixed in together. The part where the Assylum immates introduced themselved "I love rainbows""I hate rainbows" was quite funny, while the ending, when all the people came together and hugged while waiting for their fate makes you pity them and really feel for them.

Mr Tiong bought marshmallows from us. nice of him, after we bullied him so much in one year. He scooted to school on his scooter and he was carrying it over his shoulder

Birthday today!!!!!! :):):):)We're going to IMM to celebrate with lots of sushi, a brand new blue-and-white-transparent-type chess set and a slice of black forest cake :) I love you, JOy, who gave me a present today :) And love equally if not more: my bestest friends Sheep and Wanton Mee who gave me another present yesterday :)

Today's band was so-and-so. We had sectionals, then janabel treated us to a bonding session. Afterwards we went in and assigned parts for the new songs. Then everyone came back from sectionals and Mr lee took us for a lengthy (& boring) warm-up session. Then he tried to get us to play October, but the woowwinds apparently had problems so me and Joy were innocently sitting there talking and we were just about to talk about Joy's dislike of b****** when Janabel suddenly appeared and for the next half and hour she was sitting there trying the badger the secret out of us. i won't tell you what it is, although Jan already knows it, out of friendship with Joyjoy. And don't ask Jan, cause she won't tell you. If she does, she broke a vow not to tell other people what we were talking about.

Played "Seagate Overture", a nice new song in which I got to play the mallets all by myself!!! It was hard but surprisingly I could play it :) And I finally learnt how to hold the two mallets in one hand :) I was playing the vibes and I needed to play chords.Then play "Titanic", which I was quite lousy at. Except for the first chimes note, in which Barbie played an excellent loud and ringing Bb.

Jan asked us , in an vain attempt to get us to talk, who do we think was the most pro mallet player in all the sec 4s this year. Of course its Liang Zhen. Then Jan said before Liang Zhen there was Andrea, who was even pro-er. She then showed us the Persis overture score for mallets. Ooo! am totally convinced that she is pro when I saw the score :) Only the pro-est of pros could have played that :) Jan says in every batch of percs there is one pro mallet player and 1 pro drums player. Sec 4 batch's mallet pro is LZ and drums pro is Snail. Sec 3 batch's mallet pro is Jan and drum pro is Lorraine. Sec 2 btach's ??? ONly 1 person, Valentia, so don't know which one she is. Sec 1 batch??? haven't figured out the drum pro yet. Jan told us to figure it out. Hey Lorraine if you're reading this maybe you can help :) Jan told us something funny about Amanda, the trumpet player. She says Amanda can't play anything above or below the staves in the score :)WEIRD!!!
