![]() playfield is an instrumental metal band from Sydney’s Northern Beaches that officially began in mid 2004. They have been described as “absolute teenage virtuosos”. Guitarist, Alex Skipper and former drummer, Andrew Foy, were the original founders of playfield starting out as a un-named recreational jam band based in Andrew's house. Simon Skipper, Alex's younger brother, was later asked to join to play bass for the band, even though at the time he had only been playing for less than six months. Once Simon joined and everyone was comfortable, the un-named jam band officially formed as playfield. playfield write instrumental metal, and are trying to re-introduce a lost genre of music where the listener is able to listen more to the instruments - guitar, bass and drums - rather than them being a platform just for the vocals. playfield write all their own material by themselves. They are currently writing songs for their new cancept EP, Lunar and Solar.
For musicians so young, they are well on the way to becoming a successful band with growing support from loyal fans. They have received many gigs and have played at exclusive events such as the Royal Easter Show (2006). They were also offered to open for the popular Australian rock band, The Butterfly Effect, but unfortunately had to decline due to prior commitments. playfield were also the first band to play at The Star of the Sea Theatre in Manly. In March 2006, playfield competed for the first time in the Northern Composure 2006 Band Competition, where they made it through to the finals coming second in the Judges' choice, narrowly missing out on first place by just 2.5 points but still making playfield the top young metal band on the Northern Beaches. As one of their prizes in the Northern Composure Band Comp 2006 was some recording studio time, playfield has released a 5 track EP which is currently on sale! The playfield EP costs $10 at all playfield gigs and $15 outside of gigs. The EP runs for a total time of 27:10 and contains a four-page booklet with photos and information about playfield inside. In early 2007 playfield parted with friend and drummer Andrew Foy due to musical differences. playfield have recently found a replacement drummer, Zach Carlson. Now armed with a new drummer, playfield are better than ever and are ready to write and record new music and outdo themselves. To view each member's individual biography, click on the links below. |
