Every plate tells a story.

A famous Archibald Prize controversy occurred in 1975 - John Bloomfield's winning portrait of Tim Burstall was disqualified from the Archibald on the grounds that it had been painted from a blown up photograph, rather than from life. The prize was then awarded to Kevin Connor. The image of that portrait of Tim Burstall was on John Bloomfield's plate from last year's Friends of the National Art School "Plate Show".
