An even longer gap between updates, just shy of eight months. Basically, there's been very little news to report. Eve 6 has continued to tour, hitting most regions of the US. There are only a handful of dates remaining, the last show being on 10/30. That would mean Eve 6 has been back and touring for over one full year! After the 10/30 show, Eve 6 will presumably take time off to record their next album. (Note: That is pure speculation, the band has not confirmed this, however, in order to keep with their projected time table for the new album being released early next year, it would make sense for them to get back to recording.) Remember, Eve 6 also took a similar break this past spring, also to work on their next record. There have been no progress reports, so it's currently unknown how far into the recording process the band got during their first sabbatical from touring. Until a definite update is given by the guys in the band, I would say a safe bet for a release date would be around April-June of 2009.
1/30/08-
All right, I've been outright lazy the past few weeks, and more Eve 6 related happenings have occurred then than during the previous year. So shame on me for falling behind. Anyway, as any reader of this site should know by now, Eve 6 is touring, set to play their last show tomorrow (1/31) and then retreating to do "creative things" as well as some more writing for the upcoming album four. Eve 6 will resume playing shows in March, with dates running through April (and a date announced in August, Jeez.) Information on respective pages. Max and Tony conducted a (very brief) interview with Mancow on Mancow in the Mornings, a Chicago-based radio show. The main point of interest is that an album can be expected late this year, or early next year. With typical recording delays, I'd guess we'd see a mid-spring 09 release. But that's just me. Sorry about the delays in updating, but I'll try to stay on the ball more!
10/24/2007-
So, a few things: It seems the "new" Eve 6 song, "Anything at All" (confirmed to be titled "All These Things") is not an Eve 6 song, just a song written by the band for someone else that they played for kicks. They say that the artist in question is not Alex Band, but no further details were added. For the full story, check out the Eve6mediahq boards. Also, the "final" Sugi Tap song has been revealed to be "Peace of Mind" currently available for purchase in the SnoCap music store, get it while you can! Lyrics on the Sugi Tap page.
10/22/2007-
So, as most of you people who will be reading this site already know, Eve 6 played their first show since July, 2004 on Saturday (10/20) with Matt Bair from Bandcamp. A reliable source informs us that Eve 6 DID indeed rock. A video confirms this, with more on the way! Seven songs were bootlegged, the setlist, while not in the proper order, was something to this effect:
- How Much Longer.
- Inside Out.*
- Leech.
- Open Road Song.
- Superhero Girl.
- Rescue.*
- Promise.
- On the Roof Again.*
- Here's to the Night.
- Anytime. (!!!!)*
- Without You Here.
- Think Twice.
- At Least We're Dreaming.
- Friend of Mine.
- Pick Up the Pieces.*
- Little Tiny Everything.*
- Anything at All.*/**/***
*- High quality bootleg recorded by webmaster Ross at Eve6MediaHQ.
**- Slightly lower quality bootleg recorded by webmaster Ross at Eve6MediaHQ's girlfriend on digicam.
***- Brand new song. No, not "new" as in it's a Sugi song we haven't heard. This is brand new Eve 6, people.
In case you're not so hot with counting, that's 17 songs Eve 6 played (around 3 times the average Sugi setlist.) Which is AWESOME. Seven of which Ross managed to record. Before you panic and go back to check the list, yes, he got Anytime, no, "Anytime" is not available at this moment as there are technical difficulties. Do not worry, the videos will be up soon! The only bootleg available as I type this is the brand new song, possibly tentatively titled "Anything at All," but a lower quality version than Ross's. I have deciphered most of the lyrics to AAA, which are on the "New Eve 6" page! I'll update when the high quality boots become available. Remember, Eve 6 is also playing a benefit show in Los Angeles, on October 26th. Unfortunately, their set will be cut down to around 7 or 8 songs, however, it MAY be televised. More news to come!
10/11/2007.
Yes, I admit, I'm a bit behind on updating here, however, as many of you (should) know, the Sugi Tap's big news has been announced, and Eve 6 is back together. To hear it straight from the horse's mouth, head over to the Sugi Tap MySpace (www.myspace.com/sugitap) and the Eve 6 MySpace (www.myspace.com/eve6) both of these are official and run by the band. The announcements are worded slightly differently on both blogs, so check them both out. Anyway, in short, the gist of the whole thing is as follows:
- Eve 6 is officially reunited.
- Jon Siebels will not be returning to fill in guitar duties, he is happy with his band, Monsters Are Waiting, and there is no animosity between him and Max and/or Tony.
- Two shows are scheduled at the moment. The first Eve 6 show since July, 2004, will be at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburgh, Virginia on October 20th, 2007. This is for students only, I cannot emphasize that enough, the University has adopted a "We will be total assholes" policy and refused to allow any non-attending students into the show. (Which is said to be held on the Rugby field, weather permitting, at 7:30pm, if not that, then the indoor theater.) The second show is to be played at the Hard Rock Cafe in Los Angeles, California, on October 26th, 2007, as a fund raiser with Alex Band (of the Calling) as the headliner, as well as other supporting acts. Tickets are $25 for standard seating, and $75 for VIP. (Note: Evidentially, the VIP tickets get you exclusive seating, but makes it harder to see the stage.)
- Matt Bair from Bandcamp will be filling in for Jon at these shows. He will not be a permanent member.
- It is unknown if Max will be resuming bass duties, or if another live bassist will be brought in.
- The Sugi Tap is being put on hiatus "indefinitely."
- Some Sugi songs will be worked into the new Eve 6.
- Tony has described the new Eve 6 sound as being a mesh between the old Eve 6 and the Sugi Tap.
- Max and Tony plan to play some random college shows up until the summer, at which point they plan to begin work on a new album, and book a real national tour.
- In addition to their own music-making, both Max and Tony have been writing/producing for other artists, including Alex Band, Ryan Star, and Puddle of Mudd (the fifth track on Puddle of Mudd's latest album, entitled "We Don't Have to Look Back Now" was written by Max and Tony.)
- Anytime WILL be played at future shows. (!!!)
That's about the skinny of it, head over to Eve6mediahq.com for an exclusive interview with Max and Tony, as well as detailed information about the reunion; I'll be updating the individual band pages on her soon!
9/30/2007.
So it would seem (with much thanks to Eve6MediaHQ user Gwenabe11)
that there is a Sugi Tap profile page on the popular Facebook
networking site. The page lists 24 songs from the Sugi Tap, many
unknown until now. Whether or not this list is legitimate has yet to be
seen, however, the list, as it appears, is as follows:
1. Pick Up the Pieces
2. Mr Bones
3. Good Associate
4. B.O.L.D.
5. Little Tiny Everything
6. Red & Black
7. Little Tiny Everything DEMO Ending
8. Run*
9. Strange Familiar Face*
10. 3rd and Flower*
11. Brotherhood of Lost Dogs.
12. Can of Worms*
13. Differnt Feeling*/**
14. PICK UP THE PIECES NEW DEMO b85
15. Peace of Mind*
16. Let a Little Love In*
17. GOOD ASSOCIATE NEW DEMO E
18. Victory*
19. BONES new D, bridge fix
20. Red & Black DEMO
21. Freedom*
22. BOLD NEW DEMO K5
23. Can of Worms 2*
24. Little Tiny Everything (Acoustic)
* Previously unheard song.
** "Different Feeling" (or "A Different Feeling") was spelled "Differnt Feeling" on the site.
So, there's quite a few things to think about, here:
1- The titles that we haven't seen before: "Run" and "3rd and Flower."
2- The titles that could easily be other songs:
- "Strange Familiar Face" is most likely the old BOLD song known as "Familiar Face" (though this title was never officially confirmed.) It should be noted that the song known as "Familiar Face" is definitely a Sugi Tap song, too; it has been played live (no bootlegs, however) and lyrics from it have appeared as Sugi Tap headline quotes. A demo for "Strange Familiar Face"/"Familiar Face" has yet to be released.
- "Let a Little Love In" is most likely the song currently known as "Pastoral Life." Tony has stated the title as "Pastoral Life" but it could have easily changed. (Or LALLI could be a mislabel.)
- "Victory" could be/most likely is the song known as "Victoria." It's doubtful that this is a re-title, and more likely, "Victory" is a mislabel. "Victoria" is an old BOLD song that has been performed live by the Sugi Tap; there are two bootlegs of it available. (Again, much thanks to Gwenabe11.) The reason it's more likely that "Victory" is simply "Victoria" is that "Victoria" is the only Sugi song we know of that isn't present on the list, so it seems probable that they are in fact the same song.
- "Freedom" could be...(and I really emphasize "could" in that sentence) the former BOLD song "Don Quixote." My only basis for this speculation is the chorus of "Don Quixote:" "Freedom- the sun will rise in his eyes and he'll ride into the horizon./ The wind to his back...he don't look back./ Freedom- come hell or higher water." There has been no mention to the fans of "Don Quixote" becoming a Sugi Tap song.
3. The source of this information.
Unless Tony or Max owns up to posting this on Facebook, it'll be hard to trust the information. At the moment, anyone reading should treat the list as 100% false and not buy into it, don't get your hopes up! The excitement over new songs is overwhelming, yes, but it's all speculation right now.
4. If it does turn out to be false, there are an awful lot of things to dwell on:
- "Peace of Mind" only had a brief clip posted on the Sugi Tap MySpace for a short while. If the list turns out to be fabricated, the person who did so clearly showed a knowledge of the Sugi Tap's catalog.
- "A Different Feeling"/"Different Feeling" was a title that appeared on the Sugi Tap MySpace for an hour or so one afternoon, and was never mentioned again.
- A "Red & Black" demo is mentioned; one has never been released, only an EP version.
- "Can of Worms" was only mentioned in passing as a song that would "probably" be redone by the Sugi Tap. There has been no other mention of it.
- "Can of Worms II" exists only as a bootleg within the fan community; a short clip is available on YouTube, but other than that, it's a non-readily available recording. Tony confirmed the title in discussion, but never made any official announcement of it.
With all this to think about, it's a pretty exciting time to be a Sugi fan. Oh, and remember when Tony said the band had 15 songs/demos? Assuming this list is true (and counting "Can of Worms" as a new addition that would add on to the original 15, as Max said) with "Run," "3rd and Flower," and "Freedom" all 15 songs are accounted for; again, this isn't set in stone. Any claims made to the origins or identities of songs, or even the legitimacy of the list is purely speculative on my part, this isn't official news from the Sugi Tap, so we'll have to sit tight until more information comes out.
9-21-2007.
Sorry for the no updating, the reason I haven't written in since March is simple...I only work on equinoxes. No, really, there simply hasn't been any news to report. There still isn't much to say , but I figured people might stumble across this site, see the last update, and think it's abandoned. Trust me, this is not the case. A few facts, though: The Sugi Tap has not split up; yes, news is slow, but if any of you readers were around during the Eve 6 days, a 6 month dry spell between news breaks was nothing. Tony has assured us loyal fans that both he and Max are hard at work doing their thing, and in the end, all our patience will be rewarded. So please, hang tight! In the mean time, why not head over to the forums at www.Eve6mediahq.com and chat with other Sugi Tappers?

Live recordings of three Sugi Tap songs are now available. Good Associate, Victoria, and a third with an unknown title. ***UPDATE: According to Tony, the third song is called "Pastoral Life."*** These are the first recordings of the latter two songs, as well as the first live bootlegs of the Sugi Tap. Videos were recorded by Gwenabe11 from the Eve6mediahq board, so all credit to her. The songs should be up on Eve6mediahq soon; just a warning, the unknown song and Victoria are hazy; and the lyrics are near indecipherable, so anyone with an inkling, let me know! The songs have been added to the Sugi Tap section.

Hello.
This is the first post, clearly. I'd like to explain exactly what this site is and why it exists. This site is a resource, I suppose, for any and all information regarding the late-90's alternative band Eve 6; and the new project of two of Eve 6's former members: The Sugi Tap. This site exists because I am a huge fan of both bands, and had an inate desire to create such a website. For the record, I am not affiliated with Eve 6 or the Sugi Tap; I am simply a fan. That being said, please enjoy.
Check these sites out, if you are so inclined:
Eve 6 Media HQ: A great resource for unofficial Eve 6 Media. (B-Sides, bootlegs, acoustic versions, imports, etc.) It also contains an active forum. - http://www.eve6mediahq.com
The Sugi Tap's MySpace: Exactly what the title says, this, as of now, is the only real connection for the Sugi Tap. A Sugi Tap purevolume exists, but it is not maintained by the band. http://www.myspace.com/sugitap (Note: The band name is officially THE Sugi Tap, but the URL is sugitap; the Sugi Tap briefly dropped the "the" in their name, and accordingly changed their URL to reflect that, they then went back to using the "the" but by then, someone had taken the URL "thesugitap" so their MySpace URL remains without the "the.")
