GENERAL OVERVIEW

Course Description

Anatomy & Physiology introduces students to the intricacies of the human body in health and disease. This course serves as a forum for the application of basic science concepts to the study of the human body and facilitates the development and enhancement of problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

The course provides a hands-on, laboratory-based class allowing the students to make an in-depth analysis of human anatomy and physiology. Students study major systems of the body, health and nutrition, disease processes and explore career opportunities in health care. This course is especially beneficial for students who wish to pursue careers in medicine, dentistry, physical therapy, nursing and other allied health sciences.

 

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, each student will be able to -

  • describe and apply anatomical terminology;
  • describe multicellular organization;
  • distinguish and describe major tissue types;
  • describe the structure and function of major organ systems and its parts; and
  • define homeostasis and describe specific examples for each of the major organ systems.

  • Three-ringed hardback WHITE binder (1.5 to 2 inches, for your portfolio)
  • Spiral notebook OR binder with paper (for your notes)
  • Pencils and eraser
  • Pens (standard blue or black only)
  • USB flash drive (to be used in all classes)
  • 4" x 6" index cards (at least 100 pieces)
  • Colored pencils (at least 16 colors)
  • Hand sanitizer

Your grades are computed as follows:
