Lethal Option Reviews

Author: P.J. Lawton

‘Lethal Option’ begins with the funeral of Winston Simon’s Grandmother, the last remaining relative after his parent’s untimely death three years earlier. He was in his last year of high school, and his intent was to go on to college. His goal was a career in law enforcement. He was a detective until his position with the army reserves called him to the Middle East, where his career took a detour due to an injury. After several surgeries and a long recovery, Winston bought ‘Discreet Investigations,’ using his tactical skills for private investigating, but he had no idea what he was getting into.

One night after leaving his favorite ‘watering hole,’ Winston was accosted by two strange men, and was taken to an abandoned warehouse where he was questioned by a man who represented the FBI, about his friend Isaac. He was stunned when he learned that Isaac was dead, but it seemed there was a lot he hadn’t known about his friend. The agent informed Winston how they’d been tracking chemical nerve agents that were being passed by the Russian Mafia to small splinter groups, and apparently, Isaac had been planted to infiltrate these cells. Now with Isaac gone, they wanted Winston to take his place. This would prove to be quite an adventure. He was to meet the Federal agents at an abandoned stable outside of town, but his meeting wasn’t as he’d expected. Finding himself in the mist of the enemy, soon to be followed by an internal war, Winston, in his unfruitful attempt at saving his butt, dove for cover, but his shoulder was wounded. Winston’s loss of blood had weakened him, but he still managed to take out four Arabs, exhausting his energy. He came to in the operating room… Where he first laid eyes on the audacious Dr. Lana Elmore, but it wouldn’t be their last encounter.

Something weird was going on with the organ transplant program. Lana introduced him to the concerns of her friend, Dr. Janis Horton, who was a resident surgeon at the Josephson Sanatorium, and her concern was the number of transplants that had recently been performed, and how so many patients had been moved to the top of the list. Winston promised Lana he’d look into it the next day, but when he arrived at the hospital the next morning, he learned that Dr. Horton’s service had been terminated. Not only had the doctor been fired, but she now seemed to be missing, and Lana feared something had happened to her. After some investigation, Winston learned of the doctor’s fate, and now he had to relay the news to Lana.

‘Lethal Option’ takes the reader into the complex life of Winston Simon. A somewhat tough man, who battles the worst scenarios of life, not only personally, but in his chosen profession. This is a MUST read.

Normally, this is not my chosen genre, but I really enjoyed this book. This is a non-stop, always something happening story; that will keep the reader’s interest. Excellent job!

Review: "Lethal Option"

…this has to be one of the best detective novels I have read in some time, right up there with Lawrence Sanders … P.J. Lawton is far from new to the world of writing and he displays excellent story-writing skills in Lethal Option… I would classify this book as a thriller-mystery where the reader is taken on a roller-coaster ride from one seemingly unconnected crime into another… eventually the PI (Winston Simon) encounters something so great that it changes his destiny, and possibly his character, forever… I sincerely enjoyed reading this book, I could not put it down and I have already begun a second read … I will be pacing the floors until I can get my hands on book #2 to see what happens next!

   Review: "Lethal Option"

...PJ Lawton’s Lethal Option is an awesome page-turner! I couldn’t wait to see what the next chapter brought for Simon, Lana and even TJ... found myself rooting for Simon to “get the bad guys” throughout the entire book...there is humor in between these pages as well as drama, character, integrity, fearlessness, intelligence, love and loss... waited on pins and needles each time Simon came face to face with one of the criminals... I can see this book as a top-notch movie starring Mel Gibson, as Simon. If Simon could read this book, Simon would say, “Awesome job PJ! Let’s see a sequel!”
