The Philippine Junior Jaycees Inc., a special affiliate of Junior Chamber International Philippines, has successfully elected the National Board of Officers for the fiscal year 2005 - 2006. Headed by no less than the National President who hails from Roxas City JJC Edilberto Mendoza, Jr. To start the year right, the National Board of officers and the appointed National Training Director JJC Paul Adolfo conducted a leadership training for the new set of officers, appointees and L.O.M presidents across the country. The Philippine Junior Jaycees, Incorporated (PJJCI), a premier youth leadership development organization in the country successfully held its 30th Pearl National Convention
last April 3-6, 2005 at the University of Southeastern Philippines in
Davao City. Hosted by the Greater Davao Junior Jaycees, the activity was
conceived to provide a boulevard for interaction and leadership among
members and honoured guests. During
this four-day gathering of young leaders, various competitions were
designed in order to promulgate a sense of awareness on the role of
contemporary youth in nation building. One of those is the National
Parliamentary Procedures Competition, in which the Metropolitan Cebu
Junior Jaycees, Inc. emerged as the national champion. The
annual bid book competition participated by major Junior Jaycee chapters
in the Philippines highlighted this year’s convention. In this
particular event, each chapter is encouraged to submit a compilation of
documents pertinent to the activities undertaken within the fiscal year.
The compilation should conform to the norms and standards stipulated in
the PJJCI Awards Manual. The
Metropolitan Cebu Junior Jaycees, Incorporated, which was one of the
participating chapters, was adjudged as this year’s Most Outstanding
Chapter in the Philippines after earning major awards including Most
Outstanding Public Relations Awards for their Mural Painting Project,
Most Outstanding Junior Jaycee Month, Most Outstanding Community
Development and Best Local Project Awards for their Waiting Shed
Donation. Also,
the Ruperto Kangleon Junior Jaycees bested other LOMs (local
organization members) in the country by being the top achiever of the
PJJCI Efficiency Awards as well as earning eleven group awards.
Individual
awards were also given to members in good standing in grateful
recognition of their valuable support in disseminating the cause of the
Junior Jaycees, which is to establish a permanent and everlasting world
peace. This year’s Most Outstanding Junior Jaycee and New Junior
Jaycee of the Philippines were awarded to JJC Frances Louie Abellanosa,
the incoming president of the MCJJCI and JJC Eugene Cosing of Kankabatok
Junior Jaycees respectively. JJC Michael Nicholas Malazarte, the
outgoing MCJJCI president and the newly elected National Vice-President
for Visayas was adjudged as the Philippines’s Most Outstanding Chapter
President. Another
highlight of the said convention was the amendment of the constitution
of the national organization. It can be noted that during that
particular session, national officers sought for greater leeway to
increment fifty pesos in the annual affiliation fee since the previous
amount is no longer enough to fully finance the activities of the
national organization. However, after conscientious debates in the
plenary, the minimum number of members within a particular LOM was also
reduced to twenty from the usual thirty members.
The
activity culminated with the induction of the newly-elected set of
officers of the PJJCI. JJC Edilberto Mendoza Jr., who hails from Roxas
City was unanimously voted as the chief executive officer of the
national organization this year. To help him carry out his platforms are
JJC Ian Stephen Mah, JJC Barry Bermudez, and JJC Michael Nicholas
Malazarte who were elected as the national executive vice-president,
national ve-eps for Mindanao and Visayas respectively. PJJCI
is a movement aimed at developing the young into responsive and better
citizens of the future. It works on the premise that the development of
individual character will result to a more peaceful and progressive
nation. Its vision is to contribute to the advancement of the global
community by providing our young people the opportunity to develop
social responsibility, leadership skills, entrepreneurship, and
fellowship necessary to create positive change.
A GLIMPSE ON THE PHILIPPINE JUNIOR JAYCEES JAYCEES, INCORPORATED One
of the most dynamic youth leadership development organizations in the
country is the Philippine Junior Jaycees, Incorporated. It comprises of
young individuals ranging from 14-26 years of age with the same purpose
and philosophy that of the Junior Chamber International-Philippines. There
is not much difference about the Junior Jaycees and the Philippine
Jaycees. Only the latter are mostly young professionals while the former
are college students, out-of-school youths, and alumni. In terms of
organizational structure, the Junior Jaycees structure is not as complex
as the Philippine Jaycees (which to date has twenty-six nationally
elected board officers and several nationally appointed officers while
the Junior Jaycees has six nationally elected board members and few
presidential appointees). However, both have the same creed, underwent
the same basic orientation and leadership seminars and somehow
compliment each other when it comes to joint LOM or NOM projects. This
year’s PJJCI national president is JJC Edilberto “Bert” Mendoza,
Jr., a native of Roxas City and comes from the Roxas “CPC” Junior
Jaycees as his LOM. In his inaugural speech, JJC Bert stressed his
two-point agenda, which include the total development of every Junior
Jaycee and the upliftment of our community. No wonder, today’s theme is focused on how Junior Jaycees of par excellence can possibly make a difference in this society characterized by turbulence, to wit: “YES FOR PEACE! Youth Entrepreneurship and Service for PEACE! It
is has always been the long and ardent desire of every Junior Jaycee to
contribute to advancement of the global community by doing ordinary
things extraordinarily. Junior Jaycee from all lands are then exhorted
to give flesh to the purpose of our existence by relentlessly engaging
in activities that directly benefits the lives of our fellow youths
especially in the grassroots level. We might, as well find it a tedious
responsibility, but then again we simply have to remind ourselves of our
colossal vision which is to establish a permanent and everlasting world
peace. Now is the time to turn this vision into reality. As
of the moment, the Philippine Junior Jaycees, Incorporated has not yet
been internationalised unlike the Philippine Jaycees. But so far, there
are existing Junior Jaycees outside the country like Malaysia,
Bangladesh, Korea, Indonesia just to name a few. In
the recent past, there had been plans to establish a worldwide Junior
Jaycee organization, which shall be under the tutelage of JCI World
Senate. However, such plan was not materialized due to the fact that
there is often a change of leadership in the Junior Chamber
International. It is our earnest wish that a true-blooded Jaycee will
soon rise up in order to bring back such a wonderful idea and beef up
the internationalisation process. Come
April 2-6, 2006, the Philippine Junior Jaycees, Incorporated will once
again hold its annual National Convention in Ozamiz City. The hosting
LOM will be the Misamis Junior Jaycees and the Convention Director is
JJC Federico “Bong” Ocampos. It is estimated that more than two
hundred delegates from all over the country will participate in this
momentous event since the registration fee is pegged at a minimum amount
of Php 500.00. With
this current update, we yearn that every Junior Jaycee will have to do
his share in helping the national organization reached the zenith of
success by supporting every endeavour that the same will have to
spearhead. If this happens, we will be able to smile from ear to ear and
say with our heads held high, that
“I am a real Junior Jaycee.” YO! GAVEL (MNM)
What is Junior Jaycees?
