He found a wealthy sponsor and made an expedition to the south, to search for sunken Spanish treasure. This Failed and he came home with nothing but a wife. Soon after he left his wife and family behind in a town close to Canterbury to sail the seas again. His ship the Whydah broke apart on a sandbar during a violent storm off of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, in 1717.The ship was loaded with plunder that included 180 bags of gold and silver, was lost to the storm. Two men survived the tragedy, one who disappeared in history; while the other man, Thomas Davis, lived on to pass down the intense story of the shipwreck.
