I went to see two minis in Dec. 2007 and found the two in such poor conditions that I knew that they had to come home with me. But both would not fit in our car... so they had to stay one more night and we were back the next morning to get the two precious babies. Maya and her Momma, Poppy It was Maya that was the easy one to handle and she came along up the hill of the ice and snow covered driveway and we popped her into the trailer.. and then her Mom. Off we went on our long drive home.
Maya, at 19 months, was still nursing on poor thin, Poppy, and we had to leave her for a few days more so we would not create any more stress. I had to go slow with food, water and grain. It had been three years since they had any of that kind of good food. Hay was disappeared in a heart beat and the grain was handed out by the piece. Salt was given for 30 seconds at a time, so they could get a lick and not become ill.
She has grown into a lovely lil' lady and is now nearing three years old. I am happy to say she is turning out to be a sweet one, and will be harness broke this spring. She is only about 30" tall and very refined. Due to not having proper hoof maintenance, her legs are a bit crooked, but not as bad as they were.
She was shown once at a fun show and we had a ball and she did o.k. for one who had not been monkied with much. She got three red ribbons. I am so proud of her.

Poppy and her daughter, Maya, came to me on 12 December, 2007, and Poppy was in very bad shape. She was very thin, dirty, and matted. Kept in a tiny pen, no good hay, no grain, not enough water, and not much in the way of lovin' in her eyes. She was so thin that I was not sure she would make it thru another week. AND she had Maya nursing yet, at 19 months. But, I gently fed and cared for her and today she is a lovely lil' snowy mare of great love and affection. She is a dynamo in the grassture and she rules the roost and the roosters. ! !
She is a dainty lil' lady and I just love her. She is now bred to Sweet for a May baby. I cannot wait to see her new baby! ! She may be trained to drive this summer, we will see.
