Rounds 1&2

Olivers Mount 30th April/May 1st

After a 5 1/2 hour journey ( bank holiday traffic) we arrived and walked the track. Scarey, fast, off camber, narrow, trees, blind corners and fences pretty much describes it. Oh and wet, very wet and still raining. After foolishly cleaning my clear visor with a baby wet wipe i now couldnt see a thing and my first run was 62.73 seconds. A squirt of Bob Heath sorted the visor out. Also the rear was chattering into hairpins under braking i text a friend in the know. After 5 clicks here, 5 clicks there on the rear shock that was sorted. I was instantly 3 seconds or so quicker, i ended a wet day with a 56.03. The next day started wet but dryed out towards the end of the day, resulting in a best of 51.57. I was so pleased with my best time i clutched in up in 2nd just after the finish line and wheelied the length of the service road. I finished 6th in class on both days, not as good as i first thought and told people doh. Although i'm 2nd in the novice championship. And 17th in the whole championship (all classes).

Fastest class time 48.82.

A very important lesson was learned this weekend, Anusol is for piles ONLY and not as my brother told me, also for chaffed cheeks. I apologise to everyone who witnessed my bow legged walk through the pits in tears. Who must of thought id been buggered in the loos.

Round 3

Elvington Park (west) Monday 30th May

The Monday did'nt get off to a good start when Sunday night  locked into the track (gates close after 11pm)  i discovered i'd left my race liecence at home. Though the organisers kindly let me race without it (thanks Pete & Liz).

It was very hot and i decided to see how my wets would fare in hot dry conditions. The track has a huge straight where you hit top gear, brake briefly then chuck it into a very fast sweeping right then its a mix of straights and chicanes ending in a hairpin. The rear was moving about too much for my likeing squirming out of and into the fast bends. So i swapped the rear for a supercorsa & it instantly felt more planted. Although i hit the same straw bale twice with my left knee coming out of one chicane. My class was the biggest again and with Leighton Haigh riding his old factory CRF & 3 CBR 600s in there as well i knew it was going to be tough.

My fastest time was 74.85 seconds, the quickest in my class and with the fastest time of the day was Mr Haigh with a 67.00. I finished 5th but  3rd 4th and 5th were all very close. I didnt have one perfect lap and made a lot of mistakes so i now i can improve next time out. I did get my knee down which i love but havent done for over a year now, so i was well chuffed.

CADWELL PARK TRACK DAY

What a day, first visit to Cadwell and i get hauled out of the Intermediate group into the Fast group after the first session. And had also been reported by some marshalls for agressive riding.

First Fast session did not go well i crashed at the hairpin after Hall bends. Was getting really low round there knee, toeslider everything down. Really chuffed as i had just done a 05 GSXR 1000. Then rearset also went down and lifted the rear of  the bike off the floor, spinning it round. After a quick repair i was back out and loving it. Especially the mountain section i was wheelieing off that and all the way to Hall bends by the end of the day. On the final session i lead the group out and had no one pass me all session so was well pleased with that. A very successful test and am now looking forward to Octobers twisty sprint.

As a result of the crash and the BSD rearsets not being far enough 'rearset'. Some lovely  fully adjustable Gilles rearsets have been sourced.

Round 4

Dalby Forest South  Monday 27th June

This track is not much wider than 6ft & is 3/4 of a mile long and after a left & right turn you can pretty  much hold it flat out the rest of the way. Its not straight there are corners but you only need to ease off slightly as they are blind. And there is two crests where the front goes light, especially the second one on the bend just before the finish. Which i was taking flat out in 5th, not much room for error but a very good rush.

I was more surprised than anyone to see i was fastest  (in class) after practice. And stayed fastest up until the 4th of 6 runs. From memory i had done a 28.26 then a race CBR 600 RR went 28.15 on the 4th run. I tryed very hard to go faster but on my 5th & 6th run went slower with a 28.8 each time. On Chris Grailys (CBR 600RR) last run he did a 28.05. So close to my first win perhaps if i had of relaxed more..... who knows. Still i was happy with second place.

Round 5

Dalby Forest North  Tuesday 28th June

I was looking forward to this race with my confidence boosted  from yesterday. This is another awesome track starting at the bottom of a 1 in15 hill you immediatly turn right then halfway up you hit a crest which if not sitting forward see's the front wheel shooting skywards in 3rd gear. The top is quite technical with two very fast  blind left sweepers. Then its very twisty but possible to straight line the remaining bends by going off the track into a pothole & cutting across  the  grass. The finish is at the top of a tight right hand crest  that you almost get airborne on.

The entry list was bigger for today and included  a ex factory CRF supermoto. Which  meant i wondered who would come second to it. Me and Chris Graily again were very close and swapped 2nd place several times. He was the first to dip  just under 38 seconds with a 37.9 then i came back with a 37.5. I was spinning up as i changed into second on a patch of gravel on the first bend which i struggled to avoid. It was no problem until it came right round on me & caused me to shut off briefly.  I was leading going into the final run and i needed to change the way i took the first bend. Which i did resulting in a 37.3 thinking i had it in the bag i rode through the paddock sitting on the tank doing a rolling burnout. It was a tense few seconds until Chris came across the line with a 37.8 and it was confirmed 2nd place again. But this time due to there being more entries a 2nd place trophy was available to take home.

I have'nt entered the next two rounds as they will be the two rounds i drop. You have to choose two rounds to drop points from during the season.
