serving in Kenya

Ahadi Family Kenya is located on the savannah, 20 miles East of Nairobi.  Its rural setting is a great environment for the teen-aged boys who live there.

We care for the 35 boys in our program holistically.  They are fed nutritious meals, go to schools, attend church, participate in sports, etc. like any teen-ager should.

Most of them are in secondary schools and board at these schools, which is the custom in Kenya.  During school breaks, they come to Ahadi and are also sent to visit a relative part of the time.

All boys under 18 are legally in our custody and we are registered with the Department of Children's Services, Machakos District.  This is a government agency under of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Office of the Vice-President of Kenya.  We are also registered in the US as SCREAM--USA (Street Children Reconciliation and Assistance Ministry), a charitable institution under the provision 501(c)3.  All donations made through SCREAM--USA are tax-deductible.

When boys finish high school, we give them a rest from education for awhile and help them decide what career they would like to pursue.  We then try to find sponsors for them.  Currently, we have 6 students at Daystar University, 1 at United States International University in Nairobi, 1 at Egerton studying engineering, 1 at Moi University studying environmental health, and 1 doing an MBA at Kenyatta University in Mombasa.  In addition, one young man is studying to be a chef and another is doing further studies in Uganda.

Most of our boys are in their late teens and early twenties because they have been with us a number of years.

Because of different school schedules, we seldom have all 35 boys at home at once. Here are half of them after receiving their new Ahadi Family Kenya t-shirts and getting their regulation hair shaving in preparation to go back to school.
