New Route 4:

AW6 is seen here at the first stop for Route 4 on Ballymun Road. This is the first departure ex Ballymun at 10am Sunday morning on the first day of Route 4.

AW2 ran light to operate the first departure ex St. Vincent's Hospital at 10:35.

Below: AW6 at the temporary terminus at Nutley Lane. Until arrangements are sorted within the hospital grounds, buses operate up Nutley Lane to the Belfield flyover and turn around. When the hospital is ready buses will operate through it and back out onto the Merrion Road.

Although the route is mainly using Volvo B7LA Articulated "bendi-buses" some other bus types have appeared. There have been some RV's on the route but when artics aren't operating the 4, DT's normally fill in. DT2 is seen here on O'Connell Street heading towards St. Vincent's Hospital (Photo: 18/3/06).

Below: AW3 passes its extra time on the first day by making a stop over at the Belfield terminus while turning around to head back to Ballymun.

Above: AW3 crosses the LUAS tracks at O'Connell Street en route to Ballymun on the first day of the 4.

Below: AW17 rests during its spare time at a lay by on the Stillorgan Dual Carrageway.

Loadings were good for the first day, and are steadily increasing. Congratulations to the drivers and mentors on the first day who were very helpful.

Finally, AW8 is seen here heading northbound in O'Connell St. at the junction with Abbey St.

Also on the same day of the start of Route 4, the terminus of Route 43 was extended. To view our feature on this extension, click here.
