Colonials Improving Despite Record
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Colonials' record shows a winless team, but head coach Travis Pride sees what the team has done in a different light.
"As a unit, we have come together and gotten better in leaps and bounds since getting together in July," Pride said. "I think the offense has come the furthest with learning a totally different style from what the team has done in the past and what normal OIFL teams do."
Starting quarterback Joel Kristen echoes his coach's remarks, adding that every game something else begins to click.
"At first, we were just sloppy with the option, and to be honest, we didn't know what we were doing," Kristen said. "But with each game, each practice and each film session, we find something that's not working and make it better."
Defensively, the Colonials have been somewhat okay against three of the toughest opponents in the division. DS Tony Gisele said that the defense needs to get better fast.
"In a division where everyone brings their "A" game every week, we need to get up to their level very quickly," Gisele said. "It's going to be a long rest of the season if we can't play with their level every week."
Coach Pride, however, doesn't see it that way and wants his players to just be patient and just go hard every game.
"The skills were come along in time, but right now we just need to bring the focus and intensity and we'll have a good day," Pride said. "All this season is about is staying focused and learning each and every week."
After their closest game of the season, a 48-32 loss to New England, the Colonials will head up to Upstate New York to face their OIF2 rivals, the Buffalo Wings.
