Colonials Take Wallace Number One
After all the tension of what the Colonials would do with the first pick of the Dispersal draft of the Lincoln Lighting, Thursday's selection of RBLB Morris Wallace seemed like a letdown to everyone, except the Colonials.
"We're ecstatic about bringing in a talented, veteran who can help us get going," owner Jacob Martella said. "And we know it's just one player, but it seemed like the best option to jump start the team."
Wallace, who is 16th in career rushing yards, said he is happy to be here and will do what he can to help this team be successful.
"It was sad to leave Lincoln, the only team I've played for, but I'm excited for this opportunity play in Philly," Wallace said.
"Hopefully my presence can make everyone else better. It's going to be a fun year."
Head Coach Travis Pride said Wallace will be a great fit for what he wants to do both on offense and defense.
"The great thing about Wallace is the fact he plays both ways and is great on both sides of the ball," Pride said. "Although I won't say what we're going to run this year, both [Kyle] Geller and [Will] Muschamp say he's the best they've seen.
Though optimistic, Martella is keeping it all in perspective.
"It's going to be a rough couple of years, but this pick will help us get going," Martella said.
In the expansion draft, the Colonials selected: 1. DS Quentin Ammons Spokane 2. OS Felix Porter New Orleans 3. OLDL Thad Moulton Spokane 4. DS Clarence Rieves San Francisco 5. WRDB Hugo Rosenthal Baltimore 6. OLDL Kinzee Morriss Long Island 7. K Wade Wilson College Station. Philly still has eight picks left in the expansion draft.
