Basic Care & Requirements
Pygmy mice are one of the smallest rodents in the world at around 3" including tail
due to there small size and speed its recommended they are not handled or a sutable pet for a small child
They are however a fantastic species to observe this is best done via a red night bulb
Housing
been a social species they should be housed in at least pairs or small colonies,
The only reliable way to house these is in a glass or plastic tank with a tight fitting lid that allows for good ventilation
i use a 36"x12"x18" glass tank to house mine, They are provided with 2" depth of wood shavings and plenty of branches,cork bark,fake plants,stones and hay amongst other things for they to dig,climb and nest in,its also reported they can jump over 12" high so bare that in mind when selecting suitable accommodation.

Diet
Pygmy mice have a high metabolic rate and as such should be provided with food at all times
i use a small seed diet of Canary, Finch and Parakeet food mix supplemented with small amounts of fresh fruit & veg and dry kitten biscuits to add extra protein to there diet
Handling
Any time you need to move your pets i find the best way is to catch them in to a jam jar or glass,very easy once you get the hang of it and is easy to inspect,move or sex with this method
