This compilation will tell you where to shop- and where not to. The best places to shop are the ones that don't sell live animals, but it depends on personal preference.Some people don't mind supporting a little bit of death, over-population, sickness, and suffering.

This store has bad conditions for their hermit crabs, and, like all Petcos, gives bad advice. I'm unsure about the other animals within this store.

This store sometimes has bad hermit crab conditions. Recently, it's improved. It's still not perfect. The humidity is only 60%. They usually have hay with their guinea pigs, which is good.

10-6-07:
I checked on the conditions of the guinea pigs. The bedding is CAKED to the tank. There were flies all over inside of the tank. I recommend not buying any guinea pigs from this place. They can get mange mites and upper respiratory infections from such conditions. Do not shop there.

They've had sick guinea pigs several times. The sick pigs probably died. They don't even put a humidity gauge in with their hermit  crabs.
