Dogs and Cats for sale! Are you looking to buy a new pet? Maybe a puppy, kitten, ferret, bird, or some other type of animal.
|
Great! We know some fantastic places where pets are for sale! We know many great places where you can begin looking for your new pet. Which one is the best choice? Which pet is the right one for you?
Have you ever considered looking at your local Humane Society or pet rescue? There are millions of pets that end up at these places, for many differant reasons.
Here are some (but not all) reasons why pets come here:
- The owners either didn't know how to house train the dog or didn't take the time to do it. These dogs can still learn, they just need somebody who knows how to train them.
- A lady brought her cat in because she redecorated her home and the cat does not match the new colors.
- A family is moving and can no longer keep their pet because their new home does not accept pets.
- Puppy Mill no longer needs this animal for breeding and will now use the offspring. (Don't buy pets from somebody in it for the money!)
- The family does not have the time or money for their pet.
- The animal was taken away from family due to abuse/neglect.
- The owner passed away and the family can not take care of the pet.
- Their pet had a litter of kittens or puppys and can they can not take care of them or get rid of them.
- The animal was dumped off the side of the road.
There are many puppies, kittens, critters, birds, ferrets, rabbits and other animals that end up at these places. The majority of these animals will never get to have a home and have someone to love them. They they have only a few days to live before some loving person, like you, will find them and give them a second chance in a loving home. What is really great about these places, is that the people working there can help you find, that right pet for you. Here are some GREAT reasons why buying pets from a shelter or rescue: - The people working/volunteering there can help you find the right pet for you.
- The money you pay for a pet is much cheeper than buying from other sources.
- If you are looking for a certain breed, ask your local shelter. They may be able to help you. Some shelters have lists where you can put your name on for when that breed comes in, they will contact you.
- By, Adopting a pet from these places, you are helping a great cause. You are saving a life and helping to stop the puppy mills at the same time.
- The money for adoption goes towards the shelter/rescue.
- Some dogs are housebroken and/or know tricks/commands
- They are wanting to LOVE someone and They need a family to LOVE them.
As a volunteer at our local humane society, I see so many animals and wonder why are they here. They are such good loving animals. Most of them are still desperatly looking for their family, they want to go back home and be with their family.
Before you go looking for that special pet, stop by your local shelter and just see what animals are looking for a home. There are too many great pets looking for a new home at your local animal shelter and rescue.
You will see some great loving animals. Many of them are already trained. They just need a loving home and someone to love.
They need your help. You can help save a life, and help stop the puppy mills at the same time. So, please take a look at your local shelter or rescue first. You new pet will love you for it! >
An estimated 4 to 6 million dogs and cats are euthanized in
America's animal shelters each year because they are not wanted by
anyone, anywhere. We used 5 million to be safe. (Reference: HSUS Pet
Overpopulation)
Divide 5,000,000 by 365 to find out how many pets are killed each day
(13,698.63)
Divide 13,698.63 by 24 to find out how many pets are killed each hour
(570.776)
Divide the number of pets killed per hour by 60 to find out how many pets are killed per minute (9.51)
Divide 9.51 by 60 to find out how many pets are killed per second - that total is 0.15855
-------------------------------------------------
Approximate number of animal shelters in the U.S.: 4,000 to 6,000 .
Average number of animals handled by an animal shelter in the

Five Good Reasons
Why You Should Spay or Neuter Your Pet
|
1) Spaying or neutering increases your pet's chances for a longer, healthier life.
- Spaying your pet before her first estrous cycle (that is, before
she reaches sexual maturity) greatly reduces her chances of developing
breast cancer and completely eliminates the threat of uterine and
ovarian cancer and uterine infection, which are common occurrences in
unaltered females.
- Neutering your male dog or cat prevents testicular tumors and may
prevent prostate problems. Neutering also decreases the possibility of
perianal tumors and hernias, which are commonly observed in older,
unaltered dogs. Because neutered cats are less likely to roam, the
threat of abscesses caused by bites and diseases transmitted by
fighting are greatly reduced.
2) An altered dog or cat is a better pet for your family.
- Males neutered early in life are less aggressive toward other
males and are not distracted by females in heat. Therefore, a neutered
male will be less tempted to leave your property and cross that
dangerous highway searching for a mate. Neutered males also are less
likely to mark every one of your (or your neighbor's) expensive shrubs
with his urine as well as inside the house.
- Spaying your female pet eliminates the problem of stray males camping in your yard and decreases her desire to roam and breed.
3) No family wants to cope with an unwanted pregnancy.
4) Spaying results in a cleaner female dog and home. Because
female dogs pass bloody fluid for about ten days, twice a year, as a part of their estrous cycle, constant care must be taken to avoid carpet stains in homes with such animals. Spaying your dog eliminates this problem.
5) You are helping to alleviate the dog and cat overpopulation problem.
Each year, millions of unwanted dogs and cats are euthanized (killed) at shelters across the country. Although pet behavioral problems are the main reasons animals are given to shelters, many orphans are the result of accidental breeding by free-roaming, unaltered pets. The more pets spayed or neutered, the fewer dogs and cats will have to be destroyed. Delaware Humane Association does not euthanized; however, hundreds of dogs and cats are turned away each
year because there is simply not enough room at the shelter to accommodate them.
