A few rules for the contest. Some are from the contest committee, some are from the site.
1) Contestants WILL be disqualified for unsportsmanlike behavior. Contestants displaying inappropriate behavior that does not rise to the level of disqualification will be banned from entering the contest in the future. Those displaying unsportsmanlike behavior, in the determination of members of the Contest Committee or staff, can also be, on notification by a member of the Contest Committee or designated staff, required to cease and desist and, if they refuse, to leave, including without a refund. What constitutes unsportsmanlike behavior, or not, is determined by the Contest Committee, based on their definition[s] thereof. Their determination in this matter is final. In entering, contestants agree to these terms.
2) In order to stay on schedule, time limits MUST be strictly adhered to. Contestants who go over the time limit will have their music cut off. Please have only your music on the tape or CD.
3) No video taping. A video of performances will be available.
4) The cut off date for entry and for Shakira's essay is July 16th. This is NOT a postmark date. We MUST have your registration materials by this date in order to have preparations made, essays read, etc. NO EXCEPTIONS. Essay entries ONLY can be emailed to safia_al_zarqa@yahoo.com.
5) We value our selected advertisers, many of whom support not only this event but dance and the arts in general. Because of this, unsolicited advertising, in any form, is NOT permitted. There will not be a table available for flyers or other materials. Spectators, performers, staff and all present are urged to abide by this. Penalties for violations of this rule are at the discretion of members of the Contest Committee or staff and can range from a warning to cease distributing or displaying the materials, removal of them and/or turning them over to Contest staff for holding, confiscation of said materials and/or requiring the person distributing them to leave, including without a refund. Performers engaging in unsolicited advertising, in the judgment of a committee or staff member, may be disqualified and/or banned in future years, also at the discretion/decision of the Committee. Spectators may be banned as well, on the same basis.
6) NO GLITTER. Anyone wearing glitter will be disqualified.
7) No smoking
8) No red beverages
9) No pets.
10) Do not tape anything to painted surfaces.

14) Performers must wear a cover-up or street clothes when not performing.
15) Any contestant may be refused entry, disqualified or stripped of their title for Ethics violations. What constitutes an Ethics violation, or not, is determined by the Contest Committee, based on their definition[s] of ethics and violations thereof. Their determination in this matter is final. In entering, contestants agree to these terms.
16) Any solo choreographies must be the work of the contestant. In the case of troupes, choreographies must be the work of a member, leader, or artistic director of that troupe (who does not have to perform in the number).
17) Judges will not sit for any category in which they have students performing. This applies to students who have left that Judge’s classes (individual coaching or group classes) within less than one year before the Contest. It does not apply to students who simply took a workshop from that Judge.
